igottaplan USA Created Thu 10th Jul '08 05:19 (GMT)Question to EIL: Ben Lee Grandpaw Would A little over 10 yrs ago I came across a cd demo of Ben Lee's Grandpaw Would. I have since lost the album but I am wondering if anyone knows how to get a hold of it. The cover was, if my memory is correct, dif kinds of green paint, and possibly had a young red headed girl on the back? I'm not really sure but it would be nice to know if there is another copy somewhere out there. Thanks, igottaplanski's[reply to this topic ]

harelip FINLAND Created Tue 8th Jul '08 14:43 (GMT)Question to EIL: Do you know anything about this Over-nite r I bought this one about a year ago. I believe it's a test pressing. It's a 7-track black vinyl with white labels. On the labels printed in black: énchantillon, number (maybe 41 000??? it's a mess), Editeur, Face and Date below the énchantillon. Track names and lengths are handwritten in red around the printed texts and on face A it reads "Zappa" also in red handwriting. The title of the album is NOT on the labels. "Editeur: Wea Filipacchi", dated 23.8.1973 (the album was released in USA 7.9.1973!) Only the track names are in red, other info is in blue handwriting (blue and red texts are written by different persons) It is in a black standard sleeve with no text or artwork. Any info is very much appreciated!!! I could post pictures of the labels when I get a digital camera in my hands. Could the track names be hadwritten by FZ himself?!?[reply to this topic ]
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 8th Jul '08 12:06 (GMT) Edited Tue 8th Jul '08 12:14 (GMT)Farmyard antics After avoiding the afternoon rain, I made my way to the Hop Farm festival in deepest, darkest Kent last weekend to see it's inaugural music festival which was headlined by the legendary Neil Young and very good he was too, with a set of old classics, 15 minute epics and a few i didn't know.
All good fun but there's so many festivals now, they all seem a bit of a soul-less money making exercise for both promotors and artists. Was it worth missing the tennis for? Debatable and this was one of the better organised events i've attended...

DeltaNick Ellicott City, Maryland USA Created Mon 7th Jul '08 16:26 (GMT)Review: Guitar Heaven By Eric Clapton Guitar Heaven By Eric Clapton! By DeltaNick Ellicott City, Maryland, USA Few albums have had greater impact than John Mayall’s 1966 landmark “Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton.” Released by the Decca label in Britain on 22 July 1966, literally days after Clapton left the Bluesbreakers and just a week before Cream’s debut, it went all the way to #6, a pretty mean feat, since Mayall’s band had never had a hit single. This may have been a first in Britain. Of course, this is the album that set the blues and guitar worlds aflame and established Eric Clapton’s name worldwide as the most passionate of musical interpreters. If you haven’t yet heard “Beano” -- as it is affectionately known, because Clapton is pictured reading a “Beano” comic book on its cover -- then you ain’t heard nuthin’ yet! This is the stuff of legends. From the album’s first notes, you realize that you’re in guitar heaven, as “Slowhand” shows us the way electric guitar can and should be played. Clapton’s virtuoso playing is white hot throughout. Playing with a maturity beyond his 21 years, the young Eric Clapton so influenced the guitar world that Gibson eventually reissued the Les Paul model -- out-of-production since 1960 -- which Clapton then played. John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers served -- and serves still today -- as a finishing school for great musicians and sidemen (Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Walter Trout, Coco Montoya, John McVie, Jack Bruce, Aynsley Dunbar, Mick Fleetwood and others). Mayall’s proselytizing the blues (he’s 74 years old!), his songwriting skills, and his other musical talents should not be ignored nor taken lightly. Deluxe Edition Note: I wouldn't rate the sound quality quite as high as on the 1998 (mono/stereo) European release, this is an excellent package. However, pay little attention to the notes on the outside of the package, as they conflict with the notes on the inside. The inside notes, by this release's producer, answer a long-asked question, proving that the album indeed was recoded in March 1966, not April or May.[reply to this topic ]

Saul Watson - Product Promotion UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 7th Jul '08 10:02 (GMT) Edited Mon 7th Jul '08 10:10 (GMT) Edited 7 times Planet Rock News Dead Ready To Play Again The surviving members of the Grateful Dead may reunite to support US Presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s election campaign.
Speaking to Billboard.com, Mickey Hart said that Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and himself are ready to do their part if called upon.
"We're not making plans, but I think we stand at the ready to be of service," Hart says. "We're all deeply into this, into Barack Obama and the thought of taking this country back in some shape or form, what's left of it -- it's probably one thing we can all agree on! So, you bet, I would spend a night with my brothers for that any time, any place." Whitesnake guitarist Dies: Former Whitesnake guitarist Mel Galley has passed away at the age 60.
The Express & Star reports that Mel passed away last night at his home in Heath Hayes from cancer of the esophagus.
After forming Trapeze in 1969 with the future Deep Purple/Voice Of God man, Glenn Hughes, Mel spent over fifteen years establishing the band as a solid, and vastly underrated, rock band. Medusa, You Are The Music We’re Just The Band and Hold On are fantastic, but often overlooked albums.
In 1982 a chance encounter with David Coverdale at Monsters of Rock led Mel to join the line-up of Whitesnake. With them he appeared on two of the finest rock albums of the 1980s, Saints & Sinners and Slide It In. An accident on their European tour in 1984 which damaged the nerves in his arm forced Mel to cut short his burgeoning Whitesnake career.
All was not lost, however, as Mel came storming back in 1986 with MGM alongside fellow Whitesnake alumni Bernie Marsden and Neil Murray. The band toured extensively to rave reviews.
In 1992 a 25th Anniversary Trapeze tour saw Glenn Hughes return to the line-up for the last time as Mel essentially retired from performing. However, in February 2008 Mel was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Bad Company Reunite: Paul Rodgers will reunite with Simon Kirke and Mick Ralphs to play a one-off show as Bad Company in Hollywood next month.
By performing this one-off show, the band are protecting their name as a trademark for the future. The move was apparently necessary as they had learned that several other bogus ...

lscott UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 7th Jul '08 07:54 (GMT)Review: I now have four of the new SHM CDs in my collection, and unfortunately they all share the same characteristics; a very poor 'undynamic' sound, including a marked lack of bass. I have built a very high end neutral sounding hi-fi over many years that simply "tells it like it is". The recent "standard" release of this CD is far superior sonically. I was very surprised as my original reason for buying was to get an "improved" sound. I will keep this as a "collectible", but will not be buying any more SHM CDs for their sound quality.[reply to this topic ]

Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 4th Jul '08 12:15 (GMT)Vocal trickery? I originally intended to rant on about the absurd cost of ticket prices today and in particular the booking fees, handling charges and postage costs that companies such as Ticketbastard charge, however this morning, after a good night out I decided against it (maybe next week...) The reason being is that I was taken back to my distant youth when New Romantics were all the rage and went to see Duran Duran the O2 arena.
I first saw DD back in '05 when the fully reformed group played Wembley. I grew I up listening to them but never got around to seeing them live before this. I was warned by a few people how bad LeBons voice was live, even back in their hayday I was told it wasn't great. I listened to a couple of old BBC radio shows and bootlegs that were kicking around the office and feared the worst, however I was pleasantly surprised - maybe his voice has got better with age or perhaps there's some good technology backstage assisting him. There were certainly times when you would've expected the camera to be focused on LeBon hitting a big or high note and you'd look at the screen to see an image of Andy or Nick Rhodes.
The Duke Spirit opened for them this time around (last time it was Goldfrapp), they played a competent set and the sound was good which is unusual for a support band. Duran hit the stage around 9pm and the crowd, consiting mostly of thirtysomethings went wild. Unfortunately this didn't last long, I would say it lasted until they started playing the first song! The atmosphere just evaporated and the only reasonable explanation is because it was a track from the latest album Red Carpet Massacre which bombed badly. The crowd were here for The Reflex, Girls on Film, Rio and the other classics and while they did play these songs, other big hits such as Is There Something I Should Know were omitted in favour of 5 or 6 tracks from the new album. The crowd reaction to these songs was instant and must have been noticable from the stage. As soon as a new song sta...
