Julian Thomas - UK Office I'm in ACETATE heaven Not content with tearing up the roads of France with me, Steve was back in the office for just 2 days before having to scratch another itch ! This time it was much closer to home, but what an itch it turned out to be. Among the Talk Talk, Joni Mitchell, Morrissey and Robbie Robertson promotional box sets, and the Van Halen helicopter pilot's 'Jump Suit' was an incredible haul of original 7" acetates dating from the late '70s to the early '80s. The best part, from my point of view, is that he's now on hols for a few days so I get to sort through (and sniff) all these lovely, tactile, heavy and aromatic pieces of cellulose! To whet your appetite here's a brief rundown, in no particular order, of just some of the killer acetates that will be added over the next few days. Midge Ure+Mick Karn, Penguin Café Orchestra, Soft Cell (signed by Marc Almond, no less), Status Quo, Art Of Noise, Dexy's, Lotus Eaters, Stephanie Mills, Jimmy The Hoover, T-Rex, ABC, The Colourfield, Diamond Head, Gap Band, Roland Rat, Hazel O'Connor, Care, Wham, Nick Lowe, Tears For Fears, Starship, Bon Jovi, Nik Kershaw, Peter Godwin, Third World, Marilyn, Loleatta Holloway, Billy Bremner, Boothill Foot Tappers, The Damned, Heavy Pettin', Mama's Boys, Five Star, Dire Straits, Amazulu, Def Leppard and, last but not least, Elton John . All have genuine studio labels with handwritten label copy - from Master Room, Trident Studios, The Town House, Sound Clinic, CBS Mastering Studios, Tape 1, PRT Studios, Utopia, etc - hell, you know what I mean, all the great names and places.
