rockdoc Luleå SWEDEN Created Wed 13th Oct '10 17:29 (GMT) Edited Wed 13th Oct '10 17:30 (GMT)Andy Warhol's Swedish poster In 1981 Sweden's National Museum in Stockholm presented a huge exhibition of record cover art. The exhibition originated in Denmark. There were a couple of Andy Warhol's record cover designs in the exhibition, but few, apart from the Velvet Underground and Rollings Stones covers were at that time known to have been designed by Warhol. Since then over fifty covers have been identified produced between 1949 and his death in 1987. This poster with its inscription "Ytans innehåll utställning om skivomslag" (in translation: The surface's contents an exhibition of record covers) was not the official exhibition poster but was shown in the exhibition. In 2008, when Warhol would have turned 80, a retrospective exhibition of his record cover art was shown in Piteå, Sweden. This was the first time that all his known cover designs were shown in a single exhibition. This poster was also shown at that exhibiiton.[reply to this topic ]
Re: ANDY WARHOL The Velvet Underground & Nico (OK A complicated
history on this rare poster framed & glazed with black surround, it was
produced early 1970's which just pictured the Banana and title which
was AUTOGRAPHED by Andy [circa 1980 - 1982] and was later used
for a Show on Record Covers in the late 1980'. We understand that
the printer who added the black 'Show Text' obtained them direct from
New York as plain signed Banana screened posters. Obtained from a well respected Art Gallery and guaranteed genuine. Measures 27" x 15".)

jonnyzink CANADA Created Wed 13th Oct '10 11:03 (GMT)Review: What can you say bad about a compilation of Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits. Played softly, it can be the background to a relaxing afternoon or dinner, turned up to 11 and it can be spine tingling. Paul Simon's lyrics are as topical today as when they were written and, although some tracks reveal the severe limitations of the technology employed when they were recorded, the songs still sound wonderful.[reply to this topic ]

jonnyzink CANADA Created Wed 13th Oct '10 10:58 (GMT)Review: There are several recordings of Evita but this is the only one worth buying. It is the original concept album released in 1976, two years before Evita went to stage, and features the remarkable voice of Julie Covington in the title role. Covington OWNS this role - her international chart topping version of Don't Cry For Me Argentina is streets ahead of Elaine Page and Patti LuPone's versions and is reason enough to buy the album if you can find it.[reply to this topic ]

addler Melbourne, Victoria AUSTRALIA Created Sat 2nd Oct '10 10:01 (GMT)Question to EIL: I own a mint version of this & have not been able to see it anywhere. Indeed, after searching the net for hour & 1/2, your site was the only mention of this I have seen. I have been able to establish that "Record Collector" magazine, issue "RC 159" in 1992 valued this as over 65 pounds back then and that wasnt for a mint condition. When they did a recent Moz/Smiths issue in late 2009, this wasn't even mentioned in their "rareities/collectors" part of the edition, suggesting that its almost impossible to get. 2 things, what is it worth these days and why is it so rare. I have been told that it was quickly pulled after the band found out that Moz had allowed his image to be used without the rest of the band, and also b/c it has Craig Gannon as listed as "2nd guitar" on the back. Any news u could tell me would be great. Adam[reply to this topic ]

The Machman East Grinstead, West Sussex UNITED KINGDOM Created Wed 29th Sep '10 10:07 (GMT)Review One of Numan's most overlooked albums, but equally one of his most important! In a career (up until this point) where he was always being compared to Bowie, Numan delivers a curve ball that would alienate some of his fan base in the same way that Bowie did with Young Americans. However, whereas Bowie's departure was in some extent to gain popularity with the American market, Numan's is more in freeing himself from the shackles of commercial expectations & discovering the depths of his imagination. After recently retiring from touring & with three No.1 albums behind him, Dance is an exploration into new territories & styles for the electronic pioneer. Although there are still infinite amounts of technology used to create soundscapes on this work, there is now more emotion & humanity continuing the experiments from the previous Telekon. The result is an electro / jazz / funk hybrid that is less Dance & more chill & concentrate. This is the album that Japan should've made & that Bryan Ferry would sort of make a couple of years later with Boys & Girls. If you're expecting Cars & Are 'Friends' Electric then prepare for disappointment. However, if you like Bowie's Berlin works, the Gentleman Takes Polaroid of Japan & the dreaminess of solo Eno & Avalon Roxy then Dance delivers on every level. This vinyl was in great condition with a minor scuff mark to the outer cover, otherwise excellent condition with some wonderful imagery of arguably the last good Numan fashion statement![reply to this topic ]
