Bumping into Pink Floyd legend David Gilmour at the front door, followed by Stella McCartney was an interesting start to the evening which got a tad more bizarre when my colleague John pointed out that we were standing directly behind Pierce Brosnan.

As the VIP area filled up with the likes of Jeff Beck and Ronnie Wood casually passing the time of day with actress Emma Thompson, Mackenzie Crook, Kate Moss and George Harrison's widow Olivia the lights went down and the the man himself made his entrance.

The gig opened with 'Drive My Car' followed closely by the first of four new songs to be aired, the stomping 'Only Mama Knows'. Two hours later and taking in Beatles classics; 'The Long And Winding Road', 'Back In The USSR', 'Lady Madonna', 'Get Back' and a memorable 'Hey Jude' en-route the final chord of 'I Saw Her Standing There' made it's way in to the night air.

It was an amazing performance from Sir Paul and his band and although he reaches 65 next week there is absolutely no sign of him slowing down.  Roll on the world tour.
