Joy Division and in particular focusing on the (short) life of vocalist Ian Curtis, Hollywood glitz it ain't.

Peter Fenton - North American Office USA Created Sat 6th Oct '07 07:08 (GMT) Edited Tue 9th Oct '07 08:13 (GMT) Edited 4 times Put On Your Red Shoes And Dance Tonight Hi everyone. You may have heard about how seriously rare the first two US CD singles from Paul McCartney 's latest album are. You may have even fancied them for yourself, but didn't care to pay the high premium they have been fetching elsewhere. There's no need to pay £40 or £50 or even £75, when we are offering each for £24.99. We have only but a few available, so please act quickly to snag the lead single, Ever Present Past , or its strong follow-up, Dance Tonight . Every now and then, I come across something I've never procured before, but something legendary that I've always wanted to offer to our customers. This week, I'm especially pleased to offer not only a supreme rarity, but one that has remained FACTORY SEALED for nearly 25 years. Check out this amazing David Bowie Ziggy Stardust The Motion Picture CLEAR VINYL Double-Album Set . It was pressed by RCA in a limited quantity of just 1,000 American copies, and is definitely one of [reply to this topic ]
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 5th Oct '07 14:26 (GMT) Edited Fri 5th Oct '07 14:29 (GMT) Edited 3 times Tour Itineraries,,, Another rare format in 'collecting land' is the tour itinerary. Produced primarily for the tour crew, management and even band members themselves, they cover all the details of forthcoming tours including gig dates, venues, flights, hotels and all sorts of other minutia that have to be thought about when taking rock bands on the road.
By their very nature, these items are produced in small quantities and rarely appear for sale in the collectors market.
We've been fortunate enough to purchase various genuine articles over the years including recently our first batch of
Peter Gabriel ones from the
1993 and
1994 tours.

Julian Thomas - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 5th Oct '07 11:33 (GMT) Edited Fri 5th Oct '07 14:22 (GMT) Edited 5 times Cock Inn every Thursday
Not content with spending all week together in the same office, I ventured pub-wards yesterday evening for a well-earned sherbet with fellow buyers Richard and Steve. Our weekly haunt, The Cock Inn at Luddesdowne, has been awarded local Camra Pub Of The Year for the past 3 years in a row and I'm happy to report that the Harvey's Sussex and Woodforde's Wherry were in fine order. You'd think spending all week buying, selling and talking about music would lead to a change of subject once away from the office, but no, it just seemed natural to extend our daily influences & chat to the pub environment. These guys never cease to amaze me with their knowledge of music. I readily admit I know more about records than I do about music so it's always a pleasure to be a part of their conversational exchanges. Although Richard did manage to get in both Frank Zappa and Hawkwind references within the first five minutes, causing Steve to counter with a couple of well-chosen Queen retorts.
We're about to embark on a few foreign buying trips in the coming weeks so our next get-together won't be until Thursday 1st November - why not drop us a line if you fancy joining us for a musical chinwag and pint of best... Right, I'm off to see a man about a Kate Bush test press...

Buyers Blog related: The Sound (1 posts) (164 views)
Richard Austin - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 5th Oct '07 09:04 (GMT)The Sound On the product front, we've recently picked up what looks suspiciously like my old record collection ... I shall have to quiz the buyer as to exactly where he picked them up !Yesterday I had the treat of adding some gems by
The Sound , the band fronted by the late Adrian Borland.
For some reason they got overlooked at the time, but now are being seen as the class act that they were.
Along with the rarest of the rare, the Dutch
Live Instinct 12" EP, there were also nice MINT copies of all of the UK release albums, including one of my all time "Desert Island Discs", the fantastic
From The Lions Mouth which, even though it went 'missing in action' at the time, is a true classic.
Me, I've already got them all, but if you're looking to pick up the back catalogue of this great band in amazing condition, now's your chance - Don't miss out !!

Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Thu 4th Oct '07 17:12 (GMT)Please Please Buy Me Well it's been two days since my last entry and I still can't see any carpet around my desk despite having sorted more than 1000 LP's since Tuesday. I still have more than 2000 albums surrounding me which need looking at plus I haven't been able to do more than glance at the Elvis collection, though I did find the time to buy a really nice set of Beatles autographs which have been professionally mounted, framed and glazed. They are truly beautiful and would make a great investment item or display piece. This stunning item will be on the website by the end of Friday so keep checking my latest arrivals. The black and gold version of
The Beatles Please Please Me album that I mentioned in my last entry is now on the website but judging by the amount of interest we've had in it I doubt that it will be there long before it sells so if you want it grab it NOW or risk the wrath of the
Penguin Of Death .

Richard Austin - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Wed 3rd Oct '07 11:12 (GMT) Edited Wed 3rd Oct '07 12:05 (GMT)Congratulations to Germany on your Birthday ! On October 3rd 1990, East and West Germany were once more reunited, ending 45 years of division. At midnight that day, the Freedom Bell (a gift from the United States) was rung and Germany was again a united nation.
Today, I suspect will be one big party :-)
A knock-on effect of this was to make the old East Germany's
Amiga state label much more collectable.
Hope all in Germany have a fun day - If you need any records for next years party, don't forget that we sell 'em !

Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 2nd Oct '07 14:02 (GMT) Edited Wed 3rd Oct '07 13:00 (GMT)On the road again..... What a busy week I've had! Last Tuesday I took the new company vehicle "The 991Mobile" on its first buying mission to Wiltshire and returned with a superb rarity in the shape of The Beatles Please Please Me LP. This wasn't just any Please Please Me though, this was the version on the black and gold Parlophone label, a stereo copy no less! Seems like a good omen to me. From there I continued to Harrow where I found a collection of 1000 immaculate condition LP's from the 70's and 80's comprising of too many great artists to list - the vinyl was beautiful and the sleeves had been housed in protective plastic for the last 20 years. These will be hitting the site any day now so keep checking my latest arrivals page.
After spending a few days at the office sorting my recently aquired gems I was off again - firstly to Hertfordshire where I picked up some nice original 1960's tour programmes and sheet music, then to Horsham to view a collection of Elvis memorabilia. The collection contained lots of limited edition collectors items such as Plates, Jukeboxes, Cars, Mugs, Coins and Watches from well respected companies like Royal Doulton and Franklin Mint.
After a day of rest (Sunday) I was back on the road again to see a regular supplier who had aquired a substantial collection of 80's albums totalling around 1500 units, so I sit at my desk writing this surrounded by boxes of unsorted great product with no intention of leaving the office until I can see the carpet around my desk again!
But who knows what the next phone call will bring.......

Julian Thomas - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 2nd Oct '07 10:50 (GMT) Edited Wed 3rd Oct '07 13:17 (GMT) Edited 10 times Return visit, indeed
There I was, all set to draw your attention to the wonderful copy of Tubby Hayes' Return
Visit LP that I bought last Saturday, when I noticed it sold yesterday. Why
does it always happen that all the records I'd like to keep seem to sell
overnight? Speaking of Saturday, Mark and I went hell for leather through wind
and rain to attend the Music Mania record fair at London's Olympia. Having
missed out on our intended pre-show breakfast we staved off our hunger buying
some truly mint condition, mostly 1970's, vinyl from a dealer who'd picked up a
beautiful collection the previous week. Highlights included the legendary Glastonbury Fayre triple
LP, complete with hippy pyramid, along with vinyl offerings from Hendrix, Zappa,
Tom Waits, Gong, Hawkwind, Rory Gallagher, King Crimson , not to mention an
autographed LP from the late George Melly which deserves wall-space in this
office. All these gems, and more, will hit the site very soon... PS we did
finally get breakfast, about 1pm, on our way back to the office. Should you ever
find yourself 'down our way' we can heartily recommend the Oakdene Cafe .One recent item I
did manage to keep for myself is the 40th anniversary deluxe edition of Pink
Floyd's
Piper At The
Gates Of Dawn . If, like me, you find that such packages look great but
simply don't fit into your CD rack when you get them home you may prefer the
very scarce
promotional version
that graced the desks and decks of journalists & radio execs alike. All 3
discs are housed inside a wide-spined slipcase so there are no storage issues
for you to worry about.

Mark Evetts - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 1st Oct '07 16:07 (GMT) Edited Mon 1st Oct '07 16:14 (GMT) Edited 3 times Rare UNCUT shaped picture discs In the vinyl collecting world, 'uncut' versions of shaped picture discs from your favourite artist were often (and still are) the holy grail for the completist. These rarities were NOT cut to the finished shape and were used as 'test pressings' - a handful were made to check the image alignment & print quality before the final run is cut to the desired shape.
Manufactured in ludicrously short runs, whenever such items appear on the market, they always generate a great of interest.
2 examples of this collecting phenomena and in stock now are the classic Guns N Roses track
'Paradise City' and the WASP single
'95 Nasty' featuring the stunning 'woman in leotard' image.
