To view all the forthcoming releases click here THE STROKES 'You Only Live Once' Release Date 24/07/06 The Strokes release a new single 'You Only Live Once', taken from their Number One album 'First Impressions Of Earth', through Rough Trade Records on July 24th. 'You Only Live Once' is the third single to be lifted from 'First Impressions Of Earth'. The first, 'Juicebox', saw the band score their first Top 5 single. Neal Handley-Sawer - Merchandise Buyer Still Shirty What a couple of days! I have been deluged with more t-shirts in the past few days than you can shake a stick at. Included in the pile 'o stuff that has been swamping my desk are some really great # designs from Pink Floyd [a stunning 'Animals' shirt], David Gilmour [a shirt for the new album 'On An Island'], a Bowie shirt [Hunky Dory - amazingly the first one of these we have ever had] plus t's from the Rolling Stones, Blondie, Faith No More and a brilliant Stooges shirt - I would have bought one of these myself if I wasn't so poor. These have all come from the USA, but to show I will happily support the suppliers back here in blighty, I picked up some great Smiths, Siouxsie, Bruce Springsteen plus a whole bunch of Bon Jovi ex-tour & retail stuff which is really limited so get in as quick as you can so as not to be disappointed. Laura Stoneman - UK and Import Releases Richard Austin - UK Office In Defence Of The Guitar To answer Mike's question; Guitarists close their eyes when tweezing THE PURRRRFECT NOTE out of their instrument: 1) Because they can 2) Because that bent knee stance they also have to adopt can become painful after a time 3) Think of what the audience might look like ! - Perhaps some relief from having to look at the various ne'er-do-wells frequenting the front row ? 4) Maybe the tight leather trousers have started to chafe.
I think that actually it's an involuntary reaction similar to that when sneezing ... When you're potentially about to eject something perhaps less than pleasant on an unsuspecting public, perhaps you HAVE to close your eyes. The problem is that most of them are not in the same league as Mr Jeff Beck , so they have to 'do the guitarist thang' in the rock environment to cover up for their lack of originality/talent - A bit like hiding behind a bank (or three) of keyboards :-) Gawd bless rhythm guitarists!!
