Mark Evetts - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Thu 20th Jul '06 16:51 (GMT)Hot Babes One week after seeing the Damned in a hot and sweaty 100 Club, it was to the more scenic setting of Rochester Castle Gardens to see the wonderful Sugababes last week and the girls rocked like..., well like a 3-piece girl band with lots of catchy tunes actually and mighty enjoyable it was too. Anyway, on to product matters and there's been some great vinyl items arriving recently. First is a superb set of 10 (yes,10!) Roxy Music/Brian Ferry white label test pressing LP's, along with 12" acetate items from George Michael and Julian Lennon . There's also some of the much sought after BBC Transcription Service LP's including title from The Alarm , Big Country and the original prog rocker Rick Wakeman . Get in quick...Finally, with the imminent return of the lovely Kylie, there's sure to be interest in the exclusive and recently reduced Feel The Fever interview CD. Keep cool. Richard Austin - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Wed 19th Jul '06 16:47 (GMT)Competition Time Hi All, History is made this week as we have our FIRST repeat winner! Congratulations go to: Helen Stockwell Who is now Ł10 the richer in her Esprit account for correctly identifying Tina Turner as having been 20 (or 21) when she had her first hit with Ike. We were accepting both answers as Tina Turner's birth year seems to vary...OK. This weeks question:- The Dave Brubeck Quartet had a famous hit with 'Take Five' way back when (Recorded July 1, 1959), which became the first Jazz instrumental million seller. Why was it called 'Take Five'? Answers on the usual postcarte electronique to competition@eil.com & the winner will be announced next week. [reply to this topic ]

Richard Austin - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 17th Jul '06 16:43 (GMT)About Last Night... Hi All, A fun night 'groovin' at the Barbican last night - Trio Beyond & The Punk-Funk All Stars. Trio Beyond was basically John Scofield on guitar, the legendary Jack DeJohnette on drums & Larry Goldings on keyboards. They started off the night with an inspiring set dedicated to the late great Tony Williams & went down very well indeed with all present - This set is being broadcast on Friday 8th September on BBC Radio 3[90-93FM] , so you can see what you missed! The second band were very different. Melvin Gibbs on bass, Ronald Shannon Jackson on drums, Joseph Bowie on trombone, James Blood Ulmer on guitar & Vernon Reid on guitar. Their style & performance was a lot more free-form, as you'd expect with so many of the band members having worked with & been inspired by Ornette Coleman . Shannon Jackson & Joseph Bowie have to be singled out for particular praise - superb performances. Sadly it seemed that all was not well somewhere as Blood & Vernon Reid appeared to be taking completely different directions with Melvin Gibbs desperately trying to hold it together at times. Spotted a few on stage 'looks' being passed around... Still, judge for yourselves as this too is being broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on 21st July - That's THIS Friday folks !! Check it out... Michael Cambridge - UK Northern Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Wed 12th Jul '06 16:37 (GMT)Smiths Artwork Just added several pieces of original Smiths artwork with the highlight being Shoplifters Of The World Unite which is a stunning 1986 UK unfolded uncut card printer proof for the 7" vinyl front and reverse sleeve with colour bar. This was withdrawn due to the error of crediting Craig Cannon on second guitar even though he hadn't played on the record. With most pieces destroyed it is likely that this is one of only a small handful left in existence - WOW!! Click here to view my Latest Arrivals page [reply to this topic ]

Neal Handley-Sawer - Merchandise Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 10th Jul '06 16:32 (GMT)The Stones When they aren't being the greatest rock n roll band in the world, members of this band are attempting to jump from trees and land safely on their heads. The good news is that Keith seems to be making a full recovery - the even better news for me is that the band had planned to sell some keyrings , badges and pendants during the World Cup, each with a football pattern on the famous Tongue logo - with the cancellation of the gigs during this time, the stock has got to go somewhere, and my spies have been out and about gathering what they could. As with all limited items like this, grab 'me fast as they have only produced a one-off amount of these gems so they won't be around for ever. I have been deluged with more t-shirts in the past few days than you can shake a stick at. Included in the pile 'o stuff that has been swamping my desk are some really great # designs from Pink Floyd [a stunning 'Animals' shirt], David Gilmour [a shirt for the new album 'On An Island'], a Bowie shirt [Hunky Dory - amazingly the first one of these we have ever had] plus t's from the Rolling Stones, Blondie, Faith No More and a brilliant Stooges shirt - I would have bought one of these myself if I wasn't so poor. These have all come from the USA, but to show I will happily support the suppliers back here in blighty, I picked up some great Smiths, Siouxsie, Bruce Springsteen plus a whole bunch of Bon Jovi ex-tour & retail stuff which is really limited so get in as quick as you can so as not to be disappointed.
