Only Fifty More Weeks Until Christmas

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Hi Everyone!  I hope you are settling into 2008 with all of your resolutions still intact.  I'm holding off on my resolutions for a while, at least until the morning I wake up with an anticipated epiphany and kickstart them into action.  But for now, I'll just eat more.  Already this year, the collectables are moving fast and thick.  Among the newest editions include this rare HOOLIGANS DOUBLE LP TEST PRESSING by THE WHO, complete with its industry press release, and this really cool GENESIS 2007 BOX SET ADVANCE, which employs completely different packaging to the commercial release!  I've also slashed a few prices to make some tasty collectables even more irresistable, so feast your eyes on this week's top-five CANADIAN rarities:

The Big 'O'...
As the new year begins and to avoid playing the same ol' CD's here time after time, myself and Richard have devised a new idea of choosing a letter of the alphabet and then, the next day, bringing in music by artists that ONLY begin with that particular letter.

The first randomly chosen letter was 'o' (not Q as we first thought, thank god...) so a quick scour of the CD racks at home have resulted in stuff from Oasis including the excellent Heathen Chemistry album, The Orb's rare Aubrey Mixes CD and er... The Offspring 1994 'Smash' album (where the hell did that come from?).

Looks like Riccardo has bought in the pick of the day with a CD from the under-rated Only Ones.

Queen & Paul Rodgers single instock NOW.
That's right. I am pleased to announce that after a late delivery at EMI and a late delivery to us. The Queen & Paul Rodgers single 'Say It Isn't True' is instock NOW.

Buy your copy HERE....It has not been that closely a guarded secret that rock legends Queen and Paul Rodgers have been in the recording studio for their first sessions together following their successful world tour of 2005/2006. Indeed, both singer/songwriter and founding member of Free/Bad Company Paul Rodgers and Brian May have been quoted on their websites as being "quietly excited" about the music that has been produced from this creative union.

Spurred on by their commitments as Ambassadors to Nelson Mandela's 46664 HIV AIDS global campaign, on which the spotlight will fall December 1 with a World Aids Day awareness and fundraising concert in Johannesburg, South Africa, Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers are rushing to finish a track specially written for 46664 by Roger Taylor and have it available as a free download in time for this coming Saturday’s AIDS HIV benefit concert.

The track, Taylor's 'Say It's Not True', originally came to light for the launch of the 46664 campaign back in November 2003. Taylor wrote the song as a gift to Mandela and performed it live for him for the first time with Brian May and Dave Stewart at the inaugural 46664 concert in Cape Town that month. The song carries the message that HIV AIDS is something that can affect any one of us no matter our sexual or racial status.

Taylor performed an acoustic version of the song again nightly during the Queen + Paul Rodgers' 2005 tour, each time dedicating it to M...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!HAVE A FANTASTIC 2008!HAPPY NEW YEAR!HAVE A FANTASTIC 2008!

Hello, Everyone.  What kind of year was 2007 for you?  It all seems a messy blur to me in so many ways.  Best to leave the past in the past, and keep looking forward!  I should tattoo that on my hand, because I'm bound to forget in a day or two... but onward and upward, right?

As predicted, we're starting the New Year off with a bounty of collectables.  Among the best, new and authentically AUTOGRAPHED items I have to share this week include three specimens I hold in especially high esteem by MORRISSEY, FOO FIGHTERS, and QUEENSRYCHE.  You may click on the individual pics below for a closer look and a full description of each!

Merry Christmas

Seasons greetings to one and all. Over Christmas I’ve had the worst case of full-on MANFLU. I thought I’d miraculously managed to avoid it despite the fact that staff members here at Esprit Towers have been dropping like flies, then Christmas Eve, a sneezing fit, coughing, headache, the works. So I took myself off to the supermarket (which was full of panic stricken blokes trying to find that last minute perfect gift for their loved ones!) to get well and truly prepared. Tissues, cough syrup, lozenges, headache tablets and £15 later I was ready for the worst.

Despite feeling pretty rotten I went home and prepared all the vegetables and cooked the meat ready for the main event of Christmas Day – nope not the Queens speech, or even the presents – the eating! My favourite part of the Christmas period, all the things you get to eat, guilt free (until 1st January anyway). Chocolates, cake, pudding, sausage rolls, chips and dips, YUM! So much food and so little time. Two days just isn’t enough to consume everything, but still back to work…….

I hope the festive period has been enjoyable for you all and I hope Santa has bought you all the things you asked for. If not why not treat yourself to a post Christmas present from my latest arrivals? There’s so much to choose from, take a look……

The 7" vinyl single is still going strong despite exaggerated claims of it's demise and we have some stunning examples of this wonderful format right here.
Find out more about the history of the vinyl 7" in our collectors guide and keep checking my latest arrivals, as there's some great examples (including some superb value 7" 'collections') due to be added imminently.

A letter of Forthcoming Goodwill from the Man himself......

Hello Santa here...

Ho! Ho! Ho!!
Laura has given me a list and kindly asked me to tell you about all the wonderful new releases that you can expect to see in the New Year; including:

MICHAEL JACKSON featuring WILL.I.AM The Girl Is Mine
'Thriller' is the biggest selling studio album of time, and with this lead single from the new 'Thriller 25' album it has been given a fresh new sound. 'The Girl Is Mine 2008' is the lead single and the first new music from Michael Jackson in 7 years. Michael has chosen to work with will.i.am, the driving force behind the Black Eyed Peas, who takes over the duetting duties, instead of Paul McCartney!  This is a chance to introduce and update the track for a new audience, and it will serve to remind those who are familiar with it of the song's timeless qualities.

CLICK HERE for more details...CAT POWER Jukebox
Cat Power returns with 'Jukebox', her second album of cover songs and a tribute to the great vocalists who have influenced her over the years. Recorded in Dallas, Memphis and Miami with Stu Sikes [who also worked on Loretta Lynn's Grammy-winning 'Van Lear Rose'], 'Jukebox' contains twelve tracks, eleven of which are covers and one, 'Song To Bobby', is brand new and a suitable inclusion as she wrote it about meeting Bob Dylan for the first time (it also precedes her version of 'I Believe In You' on this record).
This is the first record she has made with her band Dirty Delta Blues – the quartet of Dirty Three's Jim White, Delta 72's Gregg Foreman, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's Judah Bauer and Lizard Music's Erik Paparozzi – and they make up a big part of this album. Also making guest appearances on the record are Spooner Oldham ...

FROM ONE CHARLIE... THE BOX SET -- click HERE!!

Happy Holidays, Everyone.  I'm working as hard as Santa this week, trying to get everything caught up and squared away in order to present you with the best possible items from which to choose.  But unlike Santa, it's not important whether you are naughty or nice, just so long as you know what you want, and you jump on that desire!  This week, I'd like to spotlight an item we are offering for the first time ever.  In 1964, Charlie Watts wrote a tribute to the inimitable Charlie Parker entitled ODE TO A HIGH FLYING BIRD, which we are proud to offer for sale today -- ONLY ONE COPY AVAILABLE!  Twenty-Seven years later, the book was reprinted for Charlie's reissue box set, FROM ONE CHARLIE TO ANOTHER.  I'd like to be able to offer out dozens of both editions, but there's always a little Scrooge mixed in with Santa, it seems.  Click HERE -- For Your Love!!It's no coincidence that along with these loving tributes to Charlie "Yardbird" Parker, I shall now point you toward this original 1965 stereo pressing of ...

Elvis Drafted !!
Elvis goes in the armyNot even tear stained letters from thousands of fans could stop it, although he did get a sixty day deferment until March 1958 to enable him to film King Creole. Everybody, including Elvis & Colonel Tom, thought that the two years out of the public eye would finish his career. A massive promotional campaign followed along with the phased release of recordings 'in the can' to keep Elvis in the public eye while he wasn't, so to speak.
They obviously didn't do too badly, did they?
Elvis was widely praised for not seeking to avoid the draft or serve domestically, therefore after being a 'Threat To The Nation's Youth' just a year before, he now came to be seen as a role model for all young Americans!
Sgt. Elvis was discharged on March 2, 1960 & continues to have hits, even from beyond the grave, right up to the present day.

I'm Back!

Rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated, despite my lack of entries here over the last week! Let me give you a rundown as to why there has been little input from me on this forum recently…

Monday

Traditionally one of the busiest days of the week – lots of emails to attend to from over the weekend plus regular meeting with the Sales Team in the morning. Lunchtime a regular supplier arrived at the office with a few more of the Beatles ‘Stop Worrying Help Is On The Way’ press kits. If you want one I suggest grabbing them quick as there are just a couple left now!

The afternoon passed in a blur – I was off to see the mighty Zeppelin at O2 that night and couldn’t wait. I’m not going to bore you with how magnificent the concert was because either you’re not interested in the reunion at all or if you are interested then you’ve no doubt read countless reviews for yourself by now. Needless to say I agree with the reviews I read. For a concert that supposedly couldn’t possibly live up to all the hype, it did just that – I will remember it forever!

Tuesday

A day of rest. Not in the office at all and enjoyed some R&R at home (wat...

Yo Ho Ho !
Well, Saturday was fun. With Julian sporting the latest in designer Pith helmets, the intrepid explorer cut & hacked his way through the dense undergrowth (sounds like my garden!) & discovered a lost city of long forgotten CD gems. You can check just out what he found HERE.

During the day we got to listen to some of these including a really impressive CD by Kirsty Hawkshaw & PROMO copies of Remember You're A Womble!

The voyage of discovery continues ....

Hope that you've all sorted out your Christmas purchases. If not there's still time, if you're quick.

Having avoided the dreaded lurgy so far, it's a little un-nerving to be sat so close to Typhoid Mary, who is taking the Christmas idea of giving a bit too far. Honestly, we'd have preferred choccys !

Be safe & be good, one and all. If you've been bad this year, you may get a surprise from Santa that you weren't expecting ...
