Julian Thomas - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 15th Oct '07 12:32 (GMT)Sting gets stung Now that, I grant you, is not a great advertisement for the man's talent, but it doesn't make him the worst lyricist ever. There are plenty more howlers out there, not least this atrocious effort from German duo Snap!, -- "I'm as serious as cancer when I say rhythm is a dancer" -- Go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect £200. :-)[reply to this topic ]
Peter Fenton - North American Office USA Created Sat 13th Oct '07 05:37 (GMT) Edited Sat 13th Oct '07 05:48 (GMT) Edited 5 times And You Can Dance... For Inspiration Hi Everyone. In the length of a megastar's career, deals come and deals go. Associations flourish, and sometimes they come to an end. Look at David Bowie, for example, who has counted among his record labels and imprints: RCA, Mercury, Virgin, Ryko, EMI, BMG, Arista, London , Decca, Deram, Philips, Columbia and more! Well, this week the big announcement came down that MADONNA is parting ways with Warner Brothers Records, after 25 years of success, accolades, and extreme commerce. From her classic single Everybody in 1982 to the anthemic Hey You in 2007, Madonna has been a force to be reckoned with, both as an artist and as an industry heavyweight. As we anxiously await her forthcoming album in early 2008, it will be interesting to see just how the Madonna machine will steam forward with a new team, a new vision, and the same bright future! How scandalous and provocative Madonna seemed in days gone by -- but she has endured above all else, and has blossomed into a devoted wife and mother of three, a humanitarian, and a legend. She paved the way for beloved success stories like Kylie, and even train-wrecks like Britney. It's no wonder that Madonna has been nominated for induction into the 2008 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame! Although we won't find out if she'll be voted in until March, our customers have already voted her the undisputed Queen. Long live the Queen!

Laura Stoneman - UK and Import Releases UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 12th Oct '07 16:18 (GMT) Edited Fri 12th Oct '07 16:18 (GMT)Look what else is to come!! plus a little gig update....
Good Afternoon to you all. Well what a week for gigs it has been. On Tuesday, my wonderful & esteemed colleague Sophie & I travelled into London and paid a visit to Brixton Academy to see Editors who were brilliant, the only downside was the 8ft tall (OK maybe that's an exaggeration) people who thought it was a good idea to come and stand in front of us and constantly block our view or the people who paid money to come and see a band and talked all the way through it. AAAARGH. And at 1pm this afternoon, I arrived back at EIL Towers following a journey back from Birmingham, where I travelled to yesterday afternoon to go to see my beloved Guillemots (the 5th time in a year) with the awesome City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at the newly re-opened Town Hall (see picture on the right). What an amazing experience this was; bring on next years' tour!! CELINE DION Taking Chances
Celine Dion is back! With 180 million career sales worldwide, countless Grammys and 2 Academy Awards, the Canadian superdiva returns in full force this November with her first new English-speaking album in years. 'Taking Chances' confirms Celine's vocal supremacy is as breathtaking and effortless as ever. The album reveals a change of direction with an edgier, guitar-driven sound, balancing epic pop ballads and soaring showstoppers with a more understated feel. 'Taking Chances' is bound to thrill her UK fans with such a dazzling return to form; it could also surprise and attract a new audience. The title track and lead single was written by Dave Stewart and Kara DioGuardi [Natasha Bedingfield, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Gwen Stefani].

Richard Austin - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Wed 10th Oct '07 08:50 (GMT) Edited Wed 10th Oct '07 08:50 (GMT)Reflections on a well spent youth :-) Led Zeppelin ?
Had to chuckle at that - or is it gloat ?
Many many years ago I actually bunked off school for the first & last time to head off for the great City of London. I spent most of the day going from place to place - it was a hunt, you see. There was something I had to track down as I'd left it a bit late.
I'd had a tip from a nice music journalist at a certain popular rock weekly newspaper (thanks !) that tickets for a certain band were being centralised that day before being returned to the main box office for the night of the gig(s). I finally tracked the centralisation point to a famous name record shop in Sloane Square.
Walked in through the haze of herbal cigarette smoke to see two rather long haired chaps at the counter & made my request...
Which night do you want ? OK
Cheap or dear seats ? Best
I then paid my £2.50 :-)
Four years later, I paid an exorbitant £7.50 and saw them again.
So, I was one of the other millions that DIDN'T put down for a Led Zeppelin ticket this year. Somehow, after paying £10 (about $20) to see six and a half hours of prime Led Zeppelin, the idea of paying megabucks for a thirty minute set by 3/4 of Led Zeppelin didn't have quite the same appeal to me. I smile smugly into my morning coffee ....

Julian Thomas - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 9th Oct '07 18:55 (GMT)Wet, wild and coming soon to a web site near you Today, I have mostly been buying CDs. In fact I have picked-up just over 10,000 of the circular little blighters. Now the real work begins, sorting, separating, researching, pricing and adding them to our stock selections so that you can browse to your hearts' content and, hopefully, bag some for yourselves. As ever, keep an eye on the latest arrivals over the course of the next week or so, and you should begin to see the results of today's strenuous wet-weather efforts.
In addition to the CDs I also did an interesting deal for some long out-of-print Oasis vinyl, including some of their promo-only releases. More will be revealed once I've been through all the boxes, but it's worth checking back in a day or two for some incredible bargains...keep watching this space.

Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 9th Oct '07 17:29 (GMT)Led Zeppelin ticket for sale Only Joking!! If you, like myself were one of the unfortunate 20 million souls who registered for tickets for this gig only to have your hopes dashed, you may wish to remind yourself that like all the recent cash in reunions, the concert will no doubt be released on DVD in the near future. Then you can sit down in the comfort of your own home and listen to it in Dolby Digital at ear bleedingly loud volume (normally reserved for Motorhead albums). Alternatively buy the newly remastered Song Remains The Same and watch that instead![reply to this topic ]

Mark Evetts - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 8th Oct '07 16:09 (GMT)Control... The Anton Corbijn film sounds like the cinematic release of the year so far (unless some 'blockbuster' like Rocky 9 is your thing...).Telling the story of the legendary band
Joy Division and in particular focusing on the (short) life of vocalist Ian Curtis, Hollywood glitz it ain't.

Peter Fenton - North American Office USA Created Sat 6th Oct '07 07:08 (GMT) Edited Tue 9th Oct '07 08:13 (GMT) Edited 4 times Put On Your Red Shoes And Dance Tonight Hi everyone. You may have heard about how seriously rare the first two US CD singles from Paul McCartney 's latest album are. You may have even fancied them for yourself, but didn't care to pay the high premium they have been fetching elsewhere. There's no need to pay £40 or £50 or even £75, when we are offering each for £24.99. We have only but a few available, so please act quickly to snag the lead single, Ever Present Past , or its strong follow-up, Dance Tonight . Every now and then, I come across something I've never procured before, but something legendary that I've always wanted to offer to our customers. This week, I'm especially pleased to offer not only a supreme rarity, but one that has remained FACTORY SEALED for nearly 25 years. Check out this amazing David Bowie Ziggy Stardust The Motion Picture CLEAR VINYL Double-Album Set . It was pressed by RCA in a limited quantity of just 1,000 American copies, and is definitely one of [reply to this topic ]
Mark Evetts - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 5th Oct '07 14:26 (GMT) Edited Fri 5th Oct '07 14:29 (GMT) Edited 3 times Tour Itineraries,,, Another rare format in 'collecting land' is the tour itinerary. Produced primarily for the tour crew, management and even band members themselves, they cover all the details of forthcoming tours including gig dates, venues, flights, hotels and all sorts of other minutia that have to be thought about when taking rock bands on the road.
By their very nature, these items are produced in small quantities and rarely appear for sale in the collectors market.
We've been fortunate enough to purchase various genuine articles over the years including recently our first batch of
Peter Gabriel ones from the
1993 and
1994 tours.

Julian Thomas - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 5th Oct '07 11:33 (GMT) Edited Fri 5th Oct '07 14:22 (GMT) Edited 5 times Cock Inn every Thursday
Not content with spending all week together in the same office, I ventured pub-wards yesterday evening for a well-earned sherbet with fellow buyers Richard and Steve. Our weekly haunt, The Cock Inn at Luddesdowne, has been awarded local Camra Pub Of The Year for the past 3 years in a row and I'm happy to report that the Harvey's Sussex and Woodforde's Wherry were in fine order. You'd think spending all week buying, selling and talking about music would lead to a change of subject once away from the office, but no, it just seemed natural to extend our daily influences & chat to the pub environment. These guys never cease to amaze me with their knowledge of music. I readily admit I know more about records than I do about music so it's always a pleasure to be a part of their conversational exchanges. Although Richard did manage to get in both Frank Zappa and Hawkwind references within the first five minutes, causing Steve to counter with a couple of well-chosen Queen retorts.
We're about to embark on a few foreign buying trips in the coming weeks so our next get-together won't be until Thursday 1st November - why not drop us a line if you fancy joining us for a musical chinwag and pint of best... Right, I'm off to see a man about a Kate Bush test press...

Buyers Blog related: The Sound (1 posts) (163 views)
Richard Austin - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 5th Oct '07 09:04 (GMT)The Sound On the product front, we've recently picked up what looks suspiciously like my old record collection ... I shall have to quiz the buyer as to exactly where he picked them up !Yesterday I had the treat of adding some gems by
The Sound , the band fronted by the late Adrian Borland.
For some reason they got overlooked at the time, but now are being seen as the class act that they were.
Along with the rarest of the rare, the Dutch
Live Instinct 12" EP, there were also nice MINT copies of all of the UK release albums, including one of my all time "Desert Island Discs", the fantastic
From The Lions Mouth which, even though it went 'missing in action' at the time, is a true classic.
Me, I've already got them all, but if you're looking to pick up the back catalogue of this great band in amazing condition, now's your chance - Don't miss out !!

Stephen Borkowski - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Thu 4th Oct '07 17:12 (GMT)Please Please Buy Me Well it's been two days since my last entry and I still can't see any carpet around my desk despite having sorted more than 1000 LP's since Tuesday. I still have more than 2000 albums surrounding me which need looking at plus I haven't been able to do more than glance at the Elvis collection, though I did find the time to buy a really nice set of Beatles autographs which have been professionally mounted, framed and glazed. They are truly beautiful and would make a great investment item or display piece. This stunning item will be on the website by the end of Friday so keep checking my latest arrivals. The black and gold version of
The Beatles Please Please Me album that I mentioned in my last entry is now on the website but judging by the amount of interest we've had in it I doubt that it will be there long before it sells so if you want it grab it NOW or risk the wrath of the
Penguin Of Death .
