Peter Fenton - North American Office USA Created Thu 24th Jan '08 09:02 (GMT) Edited Wed 30th Jan '08 18:21 (GMT) Edited 15 times Road Rage, Lasagne, and The Pretty, Pretty Snow
Hi Everyone. I'm on the road this week with fellow eil.com buyer Steve. After his 11 hour plane journey from London , I immediately subjected him to a giant plate of Southern BBQ , and threw him into the car for our 5 hour car journey to our first appointment. I forced him to stay awake listening to my endless stories of drama and vice, with the air conditioning cranked on high and Pet Shop Boys blaring from the speakers. He seemed to be handling it OK, until the temperature outside dropped below freezing, and the light snow turned into white-out blizzard conditions. I was winding my way through the treacherous terrain while also digging in my backpack for my phone, fiddling with my iPod, and tailgating anyone not willing to yield to my supreme fast-lane power. Steve was white-knuckling the ride in the passenger seat, knowing that if he questioned my driving, I'd slow down just long enough to kick him into the pretty, pretty snow. Now he's in the bed next to mine, snoring like a drunken sailor.&nbs... [reply to this topic ]

Mark Evetts - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 21st Jan '08 17:01 (GMT) Edited Mon 21st Jan '08 17:11 (GMT) Edited 2 times Naughty, noisy but nice... with the playlist letter today being 'n' and after a (brief 27-minute 42-track!!!) experimental foray into thrash jazz with Naked City, we moved on to the marvellous Neu , an excellent '20 Years Of New Order' compilation before Richard pulled out the stops by remembering the fantastic 60's-inspired Naz Nomad & The Nightmares 'Give Daddy The Knife Cindy' album, which may or may not have involved certain members of The Damned...
After hearing about my complete lack of knowledge regarding original stuff from that period Riccardo is now giving us all a crash course with the
'Nuggets' box set and talking about mind-bending drugs and dodgy clobber (or was that mind-bending clobber and dodgy drugs...)
And this is before i've even had a chance to get on the mighty
NIN debut 'Pretty Hate Machine' LP!

Julian Thomas - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Fri 18th Jan '08 18:15 (GMT)A book at bedtime Being a confirmed petrolhead I was pleased to receive for Christmas a copy of Jackie Stewart's autobiography, Winning Is Not Enough , which I finished reading last night. Whilst he retired from his F1 career long before I became a fan I was, naturally enough, aware of him as a triple World Champion, but I was not so familiar with the racing era in which he largely dominated. His subsequent business career is equally fascinating and the lengths he goes to in his attention for detail is quite remarkable. Sadly, one of the most remarkable comments in the entire book relates to the loss of friends & fellow racers in what was undoubtedly a properly dangerous period to be circuit racing - he attended something like 57 funerals in under 10 years! Truly shocking.[reply to this topic ]

Richard Austin - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Wed 16th Jan '08 15:11 (GMT)2B or not 2B ? Well, here we are again and todays letter (after the let off we had yesterday with the much feared "Q") was "B". Easy peasy.
Apart from the obvious
Beatles (too easy), we have so far sampled the delights of the sadly missed & much under rated
Adrian Borland , the equally missed
Jeff Buckley ,
The Beach Boys &
Brand X . Still to come we have the delights of the
Bonzos ,
The Barracudas ,
The Buzzcocks , the magnificent
Arthur Brown , the equally magnificent
Jeff Beck & even
Pat Benatar . This is a good game, even for the semi concussed like myself, who somehow managed to head butt a door frame this morning while trying to avoid unnecessarily damaging a colleague. Given the mountainous bump that has since flowered on my head, in hindsight perhaps I should have just sent Laura flying into the mailbags instead.
OK, I shall forgive Laura this time - B is also for Bump.

Julian Thomas - UK Office UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 15th Jan '08 12:12 (GMT)Cue the letter Q Honest, Steve, it was totally legit! Yes, today's letter is Q, and our friendly Queen fanatic just happens to be on holiday so the rest of us have been spared the warbling and twanging of Mercury & May. I have to say the 'Q' section of my collection is somewhat sparse, so I had a lateral thinking moment and have decided that the following all qualify for inclusion in today's playlist. First up, a jazz classic from the Dave Brubeck Quartet, followed by a Late Spot At Scott's masterclass from the wonderfully talented Tubby Hayes Quintet. And, if there's time, perhaps a little offering from the Horace Silver Quintet and a superb recording live at the Ealing Jazz Festival from the Tony Kinsey Quartet. All's fair in love & war, eh! Mark Evetts - UK Buyer UNITED KINGDOM Created Mon 14th Jan '08 17:15 (GMT)180!!! As my darts blog idea has been usurped by our northern correspondent, i was going to continue the sporting theme with anyone for tennis as the Australian open started today.Unfortunately, the British presence in the shape of Andy Murray has already gone out in the first round. Very Tim Henman...
Oh well, todays playlist letter was 'w' and has included back catalogue from
The Wonder Stuff ,
Wildhearts and the surprisingly good
Wallflowers featuring Jakob Dylan, son of Bob. Nowhere near as irritiating as his ol' man.

In the spirit of the current Kent fascination with playing music with artists all starting with the same letter, the Northern Office offers a suggestion. Todays letter should be 'F' and may I suggest Flux Of Pink Indians to start the day.
More from me later today!!
