Election Year Politics

VOTE!! VOTE!! VOTE!!VOTE!! VOTE!! VOTE!!

Hi Everyone! I'm pleased to be away from my home state of Nevada today. You may have heard that America has a "little" election later this year for a President to replace your pal George W. Bush. I live in a state that is third in the nation to help determine the final candidates who will compete for President in November. Although that sounds exciting, what it REALLY means is that the entire pool of candidates is SO desperate for EVERY last vote, registered voters such as myself are getting bombarded with phone calls day and night from campaigns, polling surveys and political organizations. If I get one more call from either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama's people, I'm just going to vote for Madonna or Kylie on Thursday, instead! For those of you into The 4AD Scene, check out this really cool 4AD COLLECTORS SET, which was limited to only 300 copies distributed worldwide, and features an exclusive PIXIES live album, as well as best-selling 4AD albums from Cocteau Twins[reply to this topic]

Let's Play Darts!!
Apologies for the lack of blog entries this week, as I have been out travelling in search of rarities [Of which I have many]. In between I have been avidly watching the Darts championship on TV.

I was intending to highlight several items today, however our 'sickness' depleted sales team beat me to it, finding homes with our customers for several immense pieces. While the new stock is being sorted check out my latest arrivals page.

Instead I will take the opportunity to rant at the intensely annoying and unsightly looking 'bus shelters' cropping up outside buildings around the country.  These are intended to house nicotine obsessed bods who can't go an hour without a fix. Bugger the architecture lets pander to addicts, what next 'smack shelters'!!

Back to Darts if you fancy joining the likes of 'Wibly' Webster, Ted 'The Count' Hankey or Martyn 'The Wolf' Adams but wanted to look cool check out this amazing promotional set including OASIS Dartboard with darts.

Get 'em while they're hot, they're luvverly

Whilst those around
me have been squabbling over deck time and arguing about whose turn it is to put
the needle on the record, or more accurately, the laser on the aluminium, I have been methodically
sorting through a huge batch of thousands of CDs I picked up last December. There's many a
bargain to be had, if I do say so myself, and quite an eclectic mix of the old,
the new and the 'yet to make an impression outside of the PR spin quoted by
their own labels or agents!' My latest arrivals page will show you the way, so
have a browse and enjoy the offer of free postage on anything that tickles your
fancy. Happy hunting.

Why, why, why Delilah...

Well not exactly, but today's playlist letter was 'Y', so it's been mainly Neil Young (as opposed to Will or Paul...) day and pretty damn good it's been too. We all know the old classics but it seems his rather prolific back catalogue warrants further in-depth investigation.

And with the release on Monday of the first single 'Jigsaw Falling Into Place' from Radiohead's latest opus 'In Rainbows', it's reminded me that i really must get round to playing the album after purchasing the £40.00 box set before Christmas...

Have a good weekend.

Goldfrapp return.....
On Monday 25th February 2008, Genre-busting pop pioneers Goldfrapp return with their eagerly awaited fourth album.

'Seventh Tree' follows up the platinum-selling and critically acclaimed 'Supernature' album which came out in summer 2005 and went on to sell over a million copies worldwide. From the captivating electronic balladry of Mercury nominated debut 'Felt Mountain' and its dancefloor-burlesque follow-up, 'Black Cherry', Goldfrapp have consistently surprised and delighted with each new album, adeptly body swerving both stereotypes and imitators alike.

If 'Supernature' was airbrushed in bold strokes of glitterball glamour, 'Seventh Tree' is its sensual counterpoint. Where its predecessor came cocooned in style and sex, 'Seventh Tree' emerges gilded in the butterfly colours of an English surrealism shared from Lear to Lennon. It shimmers and shines with the warmth of a hazy summer, an electric whirlpool of sound over which Alison's glistening voice soars.  Alison Goldfrapp says "Seventh Tree is English romanticism with a hint of California sunshine." while Will Gregory describes the album as "Heartache dressed in ten louche outfits".

Goldfrapp are widely acknowledged as modern musical treasures - amongst their most creative and imaginative contemporaries they present albums, live shows and imagery in a self-created, ambitious and consistently uncompromising way. Alison Goldfrapp has become a modern-day British icon, providing musical and visual inspiration for countless other artists.

Goldfrapp also have a very real beating heart - and it is this rhythm that reverberates throughout the new set of powerful songs on 'Seventh Tree'.

You can order your copy of 'Seventh Tree' on the following 3 formats: CD, CD/DVD and LP.

Led Zeppelin & The Letter X
I have been unhappy with todays chosen letter. The letter X. Now don't get me wrong I own Fossil Fuel - The XTC singles but I don't want to spend an entire workday listening to XTC. Why do so few begin with the letter X? We played Germ Free Adolescence by X-Ray Spex (good) and Mark played something by a band called X (also good) but where do we go from there? And why has every CD we've played today had the same tempo??? I'm hoping tomorrows letter is Q - then look out!

On the product front I have been manically sorting as much stock as possible as I have a week off after tomorrow, then I'm off to LA the following week so there will be very little new stock coming from me over the next couple of weeks but there will be a bumber shipment arriving at the end of the month.

Having said that I am pleased to say that we have negotiated a few more of the Led Zeppelin 1975 Earls Court posters from the archive of promoter Mel Bush. The last batch we had flew out and I know from the response that we had that many of you were left disappointed. I warn you that this latest batch are quite possibly the last lot we will get as Mel Bush himself has only a few left himself. If you want more info on this stunning collectors item click the link. When you feel guilty about reaching for the credit card, remind yourself that the last copy that hit the open market sold at auction over a year ago at a price in excess of £900, so you're getting a bargain! And if you STILL can't justify the purchase to yourself, remember if you don't spend it you know your missus will at the January sales!

A is for Apple, which we can plainly see ...
The beat goes on here at Esprit Towers.

Our alphabetical music selection regime is working well, if we can only stop Blues Boy Borkowski from queue jumping!

Yesterday we had the treats of 'R' leading to some marvellous long unheard gems from the likes of the Rezillos & The Ruts, R.E.M. & Chris Rea (Thanks Steve). I myself made two big mistakes - first I picked up the wrong Rutles album, then, instead of Zakhir Hussain's 'Rhythm Masters' I mistakenly picked up 'Masters Of Percussion' instead, so Steve was spared his daily dose of virtuoso Tabla and, according to reports, was heard crying in the toilet as a consequence.

It's a fun game & stops the same things being replayed over & over plus introduces us to some new stuff & that can only be a good thing to a buyer. It's certainly cut down the 'Not that AGAIN!' bleating.

There is a kind of 'Russian Roulette' adrenalin rush too as each letter is pulled. We're also all scared because we know the 'Q' is still in there somewhere ...

Still, some good news, today is 'X' - XTC !!!!

Yay !!

Plamet Rock News:
The Black Crowes are to play a gig at Brixton Academy on 9 April. The solitary date is a part of the band’s world tour that kicks off on 2 March in New Jersey and will be a particularly special show. The “One Night Only” shows will see the band performing their new album, Warpaint, in its entirety, followed by a set of hits and older material. It will be the first time in several years that the band has appeared in the UK, and the new material is their first since 2001’s Lions.

Ace News For Frehley Fans: Former Kiss guitarist, Ace Frehley is set to play his first solo UK show in years and will release a new album to coincide. The man once known as Space Ace in his more theatrical days, is to play the London Astoria on 11 April. A new solo album is due sometime in the spring, and will be the guitarist’s first full album of new material in nearly 20 years

Slash Proves He's A Guitar Hero: Slash made an appearance at an electronics show on Sunday to perform ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ as part of an odd video game duet.

Microsoft head honcho Bill Gates was presenting a piece about the recently released computer game, Guitar Hero III when he surprised the audience by bringing the former G'n'R guitarist onstage to perform ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, which features in the game. The Guitar Hero world champion played the song on screen while Slash, a patron and figurehead for the Guitar Hero series, played alongside him on a real guitar. For the uninitiated, Guitar Hero is a computer game that, via a guitar shaped games controller, puts you in the shoes of the guitarist in a band, and scores you against your accuracy as you "play" through some of rock’s biggest tracks. Currently on its third incarnation, bands that have contributed tracks to the series include Metallica, G'n'R, Sabbath, Skynyrd and Motörhead.

Metallica's Big Seller: Metallica’s “Black Album” is the second biggest album in the US over the past 16 years. The heavy metal classic has shifted a remarkable 15,077,000 copies in the US since 1991. That is an unbelievable 942,312 copies per year (on average) since it was released. It currently sits just behind Shania Twain’s Come On Over which has sold around 400,000 more copies since the official sales charts were started in 1991. 351 Days til Christmas, Food and the Letter 'L'
Christmas is gone, the New Year is here. The slate is wiped clean and we all begin again....Still it's only 351 days to Christmas!

I'm trying to tell my body that the Christmas period is over and it is no longer necessary to eat lots of biscuits, crisps, sweets, chocolate and cake (and more chocolate), however I have a cupboard that's still brimming with this crap - what am I supposed to do, throw it out? NO! I will finish eating it all then begin the diet. I've recently resorted to bringing some of it into the office to share among my co-workers - then at least I won't be the only one putting on yet even more weight!

As mentioned by Mark already, yesterday was 'D' day and I forgot to raid my CD collection for something truly dreadful to play to annoy everyone else (a job normally reserved for Richard) so I relied on our own stock and came up with Evolution - The Hits of Dead Or Alive. Words cannot express the sheer horror on Richards face when he realised he'd have to sit through 14 tracks of pure unadulterated 80's trash. (or gems depending on your point of view)

Today is 'L' day, so far we've had League Of Gentlemen, Hymphrey Littleton, Lemonheads and Jonny Lang and it's only 2pm!

Off subject of food, Christmas and our combined dodgy playlists, the year has already provided me a few decent buying opportunities, including this spectacular Madonna/William Orbit Promo compilation which contains exclusive mixes that remain unavailable anywhere else. I've also restocked some decent Madonna & Q...

Oh no, not again
Check out our Ready Brek glowFar from presenting
an identity of its own, 2008 already seems to resemble the decade we called 'the
eighties'.  So-called fashion is awash with leg-warmers, ballet-pump shoes
and big, frizzy hair.  I swear I saw Bananarama at Piccadilly Circus last week!
Unlike the 60s, I was actually there in the 80s. The rose-tinted specs may
delude us all that the 80s was cool, chic, and 'happening' but it really hasn't
stood the test of time at all well.  Indeed four of the five Miami Vice DVD box
sets I own all remain sealed, as I fear they must if my perception of a once
cool series is to remain intact. And watching James Spader in Tuff Turf is
cringeingly embarrassing, although he has redeemed himself by virtue of his
performance in Boston Legal.  Let's hope this 80s thing is just a blip,
otherwise the natural progression (regression) will mean that grunge is just
around the corner, followed by Brit-Pop all over again, and that won't be fun
for anybody. Happy New Year.

If you are a Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia or general art fan check out the amazing pen drawing by Jerry performed in 1992 and is a typical humourous sketch. He has drawn his own version of 'Big Foot' dancing!!

This has also been verified and authenticated by leading Garcia expert Roberta Weir.

Today's letter was 'D' and with a full team the first big test for the alphabet play list. Blimey, wish i'd never started this idea! Amongst the delightful Danielle Dax, late lamented Ian Dury and the criminally ignored Kris Dollimore, we've had Julian trying to sneak some dodgy metal compilation on under the name of Deep Purple and (disco) Steve coming out with his Dead Or Alive collection!

On a slightly different note, welcome Mr Fabio Capello. Now come on, i've always wanted to visit South Africa and no time better then when a World Cup is on.

There you go - 'D' day and i didn't mention The Damned once.

JAMES LAST IN DA HOUSE...

Good Morning / Afternoon / Evening World!!

Hope everyone had a good weekend? I went for an overdue visit to my wonderful hairdresser and got my hair freshened up but I now, according to some, have Orange hair! I would just like to say, it isn't orange, it blonde with copper red flicks, it's just the red needs a few washes to calm down as it is admittingly, a little in-ya-face right now. Oh well, I love it!!

His name is Last..... James Last!Anyhow, back to what I came on here to tell you; I am very happy to bring you some very early details of the eagerly awaited James Last CD and DVD [Released 31st March 2008] featuring recordings and footage of his live performance at London's Royal Albert Hall during his 2007 tour.

With a hugely successful career stretching back into the fifties, James Last has proved himself to be one of the greatest entertainers in the world of music. The James Last Orchestra is the most successful big band in chart history and they have sold in excess of 50 million albums worldwide. This spectacular new show was filmed at London's Royal Albert Hall on his 2007 tour and captures the James Last Orchestra at the top of their game in front of a wildly enthusiastic sell out crowd who fervently believe in audience participation.
