Congratulations to Germany on your Birthday !
On October 3rd 1990, East and West Germany were once more reunited, ending 45 years of division.
At midnight that day, the Freedom Bell (a gift from the United States) was rung and Germany was again a united nation.

Today, I suspect will be one big party :-)

A knock-on effect of this was to make the old East Germany's Amiga state label much more collectable.

Hope all in Germany have a fun day - If you need any records for next years party, don't forget that we sell 'em !

On the road again.....
What a busy week I've had! Last Tuesday I took the new company vehicle "The 991Mobile" on its first buying mission to Wiltshire and returned with a superb rarity in the shape of The Beatles Please Please Me LP. This wasn't just any Please Please Me though, this was the version on the black and gold Parlophone label, a stereo copy no less! Seems like a good omen to me. From there I continued to Harrow where I found a collection of 1000 immaculate condition LP's from the 70's and 80's comprising of too many great artists to list - the vinyl was beautiful and the sleeves had been housed in protective plastic for the last 20 years. These will be hitting the site any day now so keep checking my latest arrivals page.

After spending a few days at the office sorting my recently aquired gems I was off again - firstly to Hertfordshire where I picked up some nice original 1960's tour programmes and sheet music, then to Horsham to view a collection of Elvis memorabilia. The collection contained lots of limited edition collectors items such as Plates, Jukeboxes, Cars, Mugs, Coins and Watches from well respected companies like Royal Doulton and Franklin Mint.

After a day of rest (Sunday) I was back on the road again to see a regular supplier who had aquired a substantial collection of 80's albums totalling around 1500 units, so I sit at my desk writing this surrounded by boxes of unsorted great product with no intention of leaving the office until I can see the carpet around my desk again!

But who knows what the next phone call will bring.......

Return visit, indeed
There I was, all set to draw your attention to the wonderful copy of Tubby Hayes' Return Visit LP that I bought last Saturday, when I noticed it sold yesterday. Why does it always happen that all the records I'd like to keep seem to sell overnight? Speaking of Saturday, Mark and I went hell for leather through wind and rain to attend the Music Mania record fair at London's Olympia. Having missed out on our intended pre-show breakfast we staved off our hunger buying some truly mint condition, mostly 1970's, vinyl from a dealer who'd picked up a beautiful collection the previous week. Highlights included the legendary Glastonbury Fayre triple LP, complete with hippy pyramid, along with vinyl offerings from Hendrix, Zappa, Tom Waits, Gong, Hawkwind, Rory Gallagher, King Crimson, not to mention an autographed LP from the late George Melly which deserves wall-space in this office. All these gems, and more, will hit the site very soon... PS we did finally get breakfast, about 1pm, on our way back to the office. Should you ever find yourself 'down our way' we can heartily recommend the Oakdene Cafe.

One recent item I did manage to keep for myself is the 40th anniversary deluxe edition of Pink Floyd's Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. If, like me, you find that such packages look great but simply don't fit into your CD rack when you get them home you may prefer the very scarce promotional version that graced the desks and decks of journalists & radio execs alike. All 3 discs are housed inside a wide-spined slipcase so there are no storage issues for you to worry about.

Rare UNCUT shaped picture discs
In the vinyl collecting world, 'uncut' versions of shaped picture discs from your favourite artist were often (and still are) the holy grail for the completist.
These rarities were NOT cut to the finished shape and were used as 'test pressings' - a handful were made to check the image alignment & print quality before the final run is cut to the desired shape.

Manufactured in ludicrously short runs, whenever such items appear on the market, they always generate a great of interest.

2 examples of this collecting phenomena and in stock now are the classic Guns N Roses track 'Paradise City' and the WASP single '95 Nasty' featuring the stunning 'woman in leotard' image.

Let's rock...

THE DONNAS Bitchin'
Calling all Donnaholics! America's rock n' roll rebels The Donnas get back to business with their head banging, hard rock masterpiece Bitchin'. Co-produced by Jay Ruston [The Polyphonic Spree, Meat Loaf], the album is due for release on 1st October 2007.
With all 15 fist-pumping, shout-out-loud tracks written by The Donnas, 'Bitchin'' allowed the ladies to develop their sound and write with a new passion, resulting in a fresh take on the signature Donnas sound that fans crave.  The album cranks out characteristic girl-power lyrics set to high-energy riffs and raw, punchy beats, launching listeners into non-stop party mode like only The Donnas can.
Feelings range from boyfriend tension to girl fight anger to party-time enthusiasm on 'Bitchin''.  The track 'What Do I Have to Do' takes a peek into the band's more vulnerable side through lyrics that tell the tale of a relationship gone rotten. 'Girl Talk' is reminiscent of earlier Donnas tracks with lyrics that bring to mind the image of a high school hallway cat fight. Then there is 'Don't Wait Up for Me,' a Def Leppard-esque metal anthem that chants, "Loosen up/drain the cup," and brings together clapping hands and stadium crowd cheering with pounding drums and a roaring guitar solo.

Was it really that long ago ?

September 17th 1931

In America, record company RCA Victor demonstrates the Long-Playing Record (LP) with a playing speed of 33 and a third revolutions per minute. The initial venture fails because of the high cost of production. The first microgroove records don't finally appear commercially until 1948.

2008 Calendars
It's all a little slow this year - back in 2006 the majority of the calendars for the following year were already in, whilst at the moment I have only had about one third of the titles I'm expecting, and quite a few of the others have still not had any artwork approved.  I am expecting the new titles from Kylie, Pussycat Dolls, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, Jimi Hendrix and AFI on the next 10 days or so, after that the rest are due in the three weeks that follow - keep your eyes peeled on the 2008 Calendar store for the latest arrivals

THE FRATELLIS Edgy In Brixton
Entitled 'Edgy In Brixton', the DVD features a film of one of their extraordinary concerts at London's Brixton Academy in March this year where the Glasgow three-piece performed their triple platinum debut album, 'Costello Music' in its entirety plus a clutch of Frats rarities and their mash-up of Goldfrapp's Oooh La La and T.Rex's Hot Love, which has become a showstopping fave. The DVD will also feature plenty of additional material including all of their promo videos, exclusive interviews with the band responding to questions sent in by fans on their web forum and access to an exclusive members area called The Budhill Singles Club.
The Special Edition of the DVD will feature additional live footage of the band playing their hits live at T In The Park festival. The DVD is entitled 'Edgy In Brixton' as a reference to the original unlicensed club nights [called simply 'Edgy'] the band organized in Glasgow when they first got together.

On 30 September 1967, the BBC launched a new popular music radio station to compete with the illegal pirate stations that had a monopoly on playing new music. Since that time Radio 1 has become a world famous name, championing new music of all genres and establishing itself as a home to both the popular and the innovative. To celebrate this 40th anniversary, Radio 1 have asked 40 of today's biggest acts to cover 40 tracks from each year of its history. This album is the result.

HOT OF THE PRESS - THE RUMOURS ARE TRUE!
Led Zeppelin have confirmed they will re-form for a special show at London’s O2 arena on Monday, November 26.

Tickets cost £125 each and will be available 'by ballot'. More details as we have it. The bill also includes Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman & The Rhythm Kings, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini.

Founding members Jimmy Page (guitar), Robert Plant (vocals) and John Paul Jones (bass) will be joined by Jason Bonham, son of the late John Bonham, on drums.

The one-off performance has just been announced via a handout given to attendees at a press conference in the Vue cinema at the O2 complex.

Singer Robert Plant reportedly let the cat out of the bag about the reunion last week. When asked by a fan whether the rumours about Zep re-forming were true, Plant explained that the band had had a meeting about the show on September 5. He also confirmed the reunion will be for one night only.

“There’s not a lot to work out as it’s only going to be one-off gig,” he explained.
Hhhmm, we'll see about that when the cash starts rollin' in.

To enter the ballot for a ticket click HERE
In the meantime chekc out our Led Zep store for your pre-gig collectables.
