Zep are coming...
And needless to say i haven't got an angle on any tickets for that gig but there's some nice product around in relation to the Mothership release including t-shirts and a nice promotional bundle of badges and stickers.
Spend your hard-earned on those instead - There's bound to be a DVD release of the show...

P.S. Never heard of Omer Golan before the weekend but every England football fan knows his name now! Didn't know whether to eat pizza or kebab in celebration on Saturday night!

Here's the Sex Pistols...
Returning for another 'pension top-up' tour according to the sneering cynics who didn't get it first time round either.
Bollocks to that. Get over the irony of 50-year old blokes singing about Anarchy In The UK (and 50-year old blokes with thinning hair and mortgages singing it back) and it was top quality theatre complete with chief villian John Lydon snarlingly resplendent in his country gent outfit.

The Sex Pistols were hardly a threat to western civilisation in 1977 despite over-hyped media reports of the time but they altered the outlook on life for a whole chunk of the youth from that era. And you can't say that about bloody Duran Duran.

The songs and THAT album stand the test of time, no argument. Gawd bless 'em.

Bumper Edition!!

Good Morning / Afternoon Boys & Girls.

Once again, I do owe you apology for my lack of blogs in the last couple of weeks, things have been a little manic here in the run-up to Xmas but I do bring you a bumper blog of awesome new titles to look out for; including:

FOO FIGHTERS Long Road To Ruin
'Long Road To Ruin' is the second single from the # 1 album 'Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace', the hugely acclaimed album by the Foo Fighters. Coming hot on the heels of radio smash 'The Pretender', the single is released on 7" & 2 x CD formats.
All formats feature exclusive tracks, including a cover of the Arcade Fire track 'Keep The Car Running', recorded live in Brighton + a rocking version of the Dead Kennedys classic 'Holiday In Cambodia', recorded at the MTV awards 2007 and featuring guest vocals by Serj Tankian from System Of A Down.
With a sold out UK arena tour in November and a Jonathan Ross performance of 'Long Road To Ruin' on November 9th, this single is set to follow the great success of 'The Pretender' and continue to drive the album on in to next year.

CLICK HERE for more details...EDITORS The Racing Rats
Editors release a new single from their Number One album, 'An End Has A Start' on November 26th. 'The Racing Rats' has been a highlight of the band's live sets throughout the year and was a real moment of their performance during this year's run of 'Later With Jools Holland'. The formats will also include brand new song, 'Banging Heads', which will be familiar to anyone who has seen the band on their current sold out UK tour. 'Banging Heads' was one of the last tracks recorded during the sessions for 'An End Has A Start' but was too late to be considered for inclusion on the album itself.
Editors have had a phenomenal 2007. Having already cemented their position as one of the UK's biggest new ban...

Let's all go backwards !!
Well, with the majestic Soft Boys, Robyn showed you how to go sideways, now it's time to go backwards.
So, if you know where the prawns are & your crabs are still sacred, you'll probably want to check out this amazing retrospective box set.

I have been lucky enough to see Robyn, The Soft Boys & The Egyptians several times so any new input is devoured greedily.

Probably the jewel in this crown is the double disc set 'While Thatcher Mauled Britain' which celebrates those golden years when anything not nailed down was sold off. A side effect of which was that people who found themselves with a lot of time on their hands began to learn instruments & form bands. This homage to street corner life & thundering out anarchistic tunes from your garage/cellar/bedroom contains many rare & unreleased gems - The complete version of 'Surgery', for example, along with the neglected b-side 'Listening To The Higsons' (which is something else you had to do in those days). A lot of these songs still make it into Robyn's live solo set, but it's nice to have them on a nice shiny CD at last. The set pretty much focusses on 'Robyn Unplugged' in that two of the other discs are the awesome 'Eye' & 'I Often Dream Of Trains' along with the second version of 'Black Snake Diamond Role' [Beware! - electric guitars & a Psychedelic Fur]. Those of you (the other five), like me that bought the first Aftermath CD issue of the Armageddon LP [Armageddon / Aftermath - Geddit?] will already have the original versions of these tracks but all subsequent issues seem to have used different takes. Probably a similar story to the legendary (& much missed) 'skin it back' version of 'Old Pervert' on the original issue of Underwater Moonlight which has probably taken a trip to Biro land.

Still, the zillions of extra tracks (OK, not zillions, but more than just the odd one or two, a whole Heinz 57) make it an essential addition to your lib...

MOVIES -- the new single by MORTEN HARKET!OneTwo -- CLAUDIA & PAUL!HUMAN LEAGUE!POE -- where are you??

Hi Everyone.  Twelve years after his last internationally released solo album, MORTEN HARKET has a new solo project on the way, with the first single, "Movies" set to hit the airwaves and internet this week!  Although there were some decent tracks on A-Ha's last studio album, Analogue, I felt myself connecting less and less to the band, and wishing for a return to the more moody, introspective sounds on both A-Ha's Memorial Beach album from 1993, and Morten's solo album from 1995, Wild Seed.  For those of you who still think of A-Ha as the "Take On Me" band, you've probably missed out on a varied and deep catalogue of music that has inspired artists as notable as Bono and Chris Mar...

Show Of Hands Tour
Witness - Out Now !Well, looks like Messrs Knightley & Beer are off on their travels again ...

Their Autumn Tour officially starts on 22nd November with a nice small 'warmup' gig at the Manor Theatre Pavillion in Sidmouth, Devon, looping right round to a gig at one of my favourite venues, The Phoenix in Exeter on the 8th December. Steve Knightley & Phil Beer are also doing solo tours in the first quarter of 2008, so all is good.

The Show Of Hands gigs will be supported by Slaid Cleaves & they will be joined by the talented Miranda Sykes on upright bass. A splendid time is guaranteed for all !!

PS - Please feel free to petition Laura to start stocking their releases :-)

Holland awaits....
November - traditionally a busy month here at EIL, this year is no exception. I've already spent a couple of days out on the road this month and tomorrow I will be heading off to Utrecht with Julian to the mega record fair.
The size of this show is beyond compare to any other record fair in the world - imagine an aircraft hanger filled with records, CD's and memorabilia and you'll be getting close.

Friday is for dealers only, a lot of records and money changes hands on a Friday. Whilst deals are being conducted you are fearful for your life as other dealers are quite literally driving around the hall in their (dirty) white transit vans looking for their stall, unaware (or uncaring) of the people in their way. I've seen many a stall collapse as it get hit by a van and many people crushed in an effort to avoid these (usually foreign) maniacs. When you add into the mix the fact that IT'S BLOODY FREEZING because all the doors are left open for the dealers to unload you'll begin to understand that this job isn't fun, sun and eating all the time!

Saturday - After the challenging and adrenalin filled Friday rush, Saturday is usually a little more sedate, until 10am when the doors are open to the public then the rush starts again! The sweet smell of 'herbal' cigarrettes hangs in the air - the heaters on full blast, and crap DJ Eddie De Clerc or whatever his name is blasts music from his stall all day. Still if we're lucky by mid-afternoon we've usually found all the items we're looking for and we make tracks for the 6 hour drive home with our bounty.

So that's the plan - look out for my update on Monday or Tuesday as I'll be highlighting a few choice items.

Beatles, Brand New and curried sausage rolls...yum

More from the vaults
today, but first, a nice little newbie for Beatles' fans. This month's long
awaited release of the digitally restored Help! DVD was promoted in the USA with
a superb 7-song Help! CD Sampler featuring audio cuts from the movie. Housed
inside a gatefold picture sleeve this is sure to become yet another much coveted
Beatles collectable. Our stash of long out-of-print formats from Brand New is
ever dwindling due to the staggeringly strong sales we've been experiencing.
We're almost down to the last copies of their pink vinyl Sic Transit Gloria 7"
and the rare debut red vinyl 7" for The Quiet Things..., and I'm pleased to say
I've just discovered a stash of the reissued CD/DVD single set for the same.
We're also selling the brand new Brand New CD for a mere £4.99, shrink sealed
with its title sticker attached. But if 'emo' is not your thing there's plenty
more to discover on my latest arrivals page. Steve and I are preparing oursleves
for the mega record fair in Utrecht this weekend. If previous shows are
anything to go by we will have a bumper selection of the rare and the good to
shout about next week, and whilst in Holland we'll be sure to sustain our energy
levels with copious quantities of curried sausage rolls and battery-acid
coffee...oh joy.

Dream Into Action

I ONLY FELL ASLEEP FOR A SECOND!!

Hello Everyone.  Last night I dreamed that I was on stage at a Police reunion concert (and in bed with Sting's tour manager!) while Stewart Copeland was bidding on Police singles on eBay with his back to the audience, and Sting was singing to the sold-out crowd. I was later waiting for the band to bring me pizza while I was attending an intimate Roseanne Cash concert, all before swimming underwater in a pool, and being shot at by guns firing blanks. That should give you some insight into the disturbed mind of an eil.com buyer, and I swear that I actually had that very dream last night!  With that in mind, my dream has provided me with the inspiration to offer you some dream-and-blog-worthy collectables. Check out this really rare Japanese Police Box Set featuring coloured vinyl 7" singles and a picture disc exclusive to the box, complete with t...

IT'S OFFICIAL
guitars are better investments than homes, says rock ‘n roll memorabilia expert Ted Owen.  They’re also better investments than stocks and shares.  A 1958 Gibson Explorer bought for $247.50 was sold in 2006 for $611,000 That’s almost a 20% year on year annual return versus an average of 12% for the typical house or the 9% typically produced investing in shares.  Adam Newman, manager of Vintage & Rare Guitars says, “Late fifties Les Paul Standards bought for a few hundred dollars could be worth over $300,000 while Pre-War Martin D45’s would fetch over half a million dollars now and bought for $200.”

Says Darren Julien, president of specialist rock ‘n roll memorabilia auction house, Julien’s Auctions,  ‘With confidence falling in the housing market, we’ve seen a huge upturn in interest in rock ‘n roll memorabilia.’

So now you have had FREE financial advice stop fretting (ya see what I did there?) have a look at these beautiful investment opportunities.

Blog fever

Does anybody know
what day it is? A familiar question to anyone who works with me, and sometimes
they lie just to confuse me even more. Weird that I never forget a name or a
face, but couldn't tell you the day of the week if my life depended on it. So,
this being my first blog entry for this week I had better draw your attention to
some goodies worthy of your time. This week (I couldn't really say which
day) I have dug up a few new collectables to whet the appetite of vinyl & CD
enthusiasts alike. Firstly, I managed to obtain a small quantity of the
exceptionally rare & wonderful Joy DivisonDeluxe Vinyl Box. These really
are limited to just 500 copies so don't delay if you want to secure one. The
recent Pet Shop Boys album, Disco 4, featured many of their remixes for other
artists plus the exclusive track Integral. Weirdly, the vinyl album sampler that
was sent to DJs here in the UK included the Dave Spoon Remix of Integral, which
does not feature on the album itself. If you missed out on last year's haul of
the Kaiser Chiefs fan-club CD single 'You Can Have It All' fear not, for I have
found some more under the stairs so you can fill your own stocking, or slip it
into somebody elses. Pete Doherty continues to make tabloid headlines and to
coincide with Babyshambles' latest album there's an exclusive interview CD featuring
twenty audio cuts from an interview with all four members of the band recorded,
typically enough, in a pub in London in July. Cheers!

We're coming to get you ...
Interesting article in the Washington Post yesterday ...

Charles and Linda Everson were driving back to their hotel when their minivan was struck by a falling object _ a 600-pound cow. The Eversons were unhurt but the cow, which had fallen off a cliff, had to be euthanized.

The year-old cow fell about 200 feet from the cliff and landed on the hood of the couple's minivan, causing heavy damage.

A Chelan County fire chief, Arnold Baker, said the couple missed being killed by a matter of inches in the accident Sunday on a highway near Manson.

The Eversons, visiting the area from their home in Westland, Mich., to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, were checked at Lake Chelan Community Hospital as a precaution.

Everson, 49, said he didn't see the cow falling and didn't know what happened until afterward.

He said he kept repeating: "I don't believe this. I don't believe this."
