DOH!
Usually I'll post a blog on a Tuesday and Thursday (and other times when I have something to say) but you know how it is, you take a long weekend off, come back to work and don't know what day it is, hence I spent all day yesterday doing what I'd normally be doing on a Monday - including my usual Monday get together with the sales team and forgot to blog so here it is, better late than never!

The shipment from Texas arrived safely at the UK office on Friday but I was in sunny (but bloody cold) Blackpool for a few days so I wasn't here to sort through it. Peter and I had worked like maniacs whilst in Texas pricing and researching as much stuff as possible before shipping so although I wasn't here in person to answer questions, a large portion of the shipment has been added in my abscence. Of course that's not to say that all the gems are there for the taking, far from it! There's probably still 100 items in need of research and pricing. I will do my best to get everything sorted over the next couple of days so that the entire shipment should be on the site by the weekend.

What's still to sort? Well there are lots of Mobile Fidelity vinyl LP's including some we've never stocked before such as Derek & The Dominos In Concert plus titles by The Moody Blues, Kenny Rogers and Rod Stewart to name a few - many still sealed! Also there are still a lot of original US vinyls from the 70's that are still sealed - they are always popular, but are getting harder to find. Finally (for now) I have a fully autographed Sepultura 'Roots' box set which will no doubt fly out.

Don't hesitate on any of this stuff as so many of the items added to the site from this shipment have sold already, including both the Madonna autographed items plus the Beatles Sgt Pepper Mobile Fidelity Box and the factory sealed original US Christmas album!

Hi Everyone.  The temperature is dropping, which to some of us in this hemisphere means that winter is fast approaching.  To me it means the busiest time of year for collectables is at hand, and I shall require a succession of espresso shots to keep me working through the long, cold nights ahead!  In the hope of offering something for (almost) everyone, here are a few recent finds worth spotlighting for you today.  Check out this incredibly rare -- and STILL SEALED! -- copy of the legendary prog/folk/psyche album from 1974, The Youngest Son LP by Jeff Moore.  It's usually at the very top of want lists for "items-least-likely-to-ever-find," but we have one beautiful copy to proudly offer.  Bruce Springsteen is hot again -- not that he's ever really cooled down!  Bruce fans should take note of this Japanese-only Born To Run 30th Anniversary Box Set.  Click on th...

On BBC 2 at 11.35 pm tonight is the start of the 30th (yes, really) series of the Jools Holland presented 'Later' show.
Obviously a winning formula for the former Squeeze member so why change it?

Tonights guest include a now solo Siouxsie Sioux and West London chaps Hard-Fi showing off songs from their latest chart topping album.

Relics bring down the house, maybe
Next weekend one of
my local pubs has lined up The Relics, a Pink Floyd tribute band, to play on the
Sunday evening.

I wouldn't say I am
a fan of tribute bands, having turned down numerous offers to see the Australian
PF, but as this one is on my doorstep I will make the
effort.

As there is no
stage, or anything even resembling a raised platform, I suspect they'll be
playing without the light show. I can't imagine what a PF laser would do inside
a low celinged 15th century pub, but it could be fun finding out. Better take my
eclipse glasses just in case.

Now, if only the
real PF would play my local, that would indeed be a treat. But I won't hold my
breath!

Happy Celtic New Year !
Well, the broom is back in the closet for another year :-)

I've obviously been listening to a little too much Jeff Beck recently as I was persuaded to purchase a nice Fender Strat yesterday - The fourth I've owned over the years. For some reason I always ended up trading them for something, regretted it, & then bought another only to trade that for something & regret it again.

This time (I tell myself) it's for keeps.

They're such versatile toys that I've really missed not having one around the house.

Time to remind myself what silly things you can do on electrics again - I shall have to practice that pained expression that you have to pull when tweaking that perfect note during your twenty minute guitar solo ...

Luckily for the world (and my neighbours) I'm more of a rhythm guy than a multi note noodler though I do confess to the odd noodle from time to time.

Can't afford it, but what the hey. Never stopped me from buying a guitar before.

See you at the soup kitchen.

Howdy Y' all

I'm back! After five days in Austin, Texas I don't even wanna think about eating another steak or rack of ribs -  though asking me again next week may prompt a different response, all I want right now is vegetables and a decent cup of tea!

It's been a year since the last Austin Record Show and both Peter and I were nervous as to what to expect there in terms of decent quality stock and how many other people would be there looking for a bargain.

The weather was great, days were warm but not hot, the evenings cool but not cold and there was less humidity than in previous trips, but enough about that. I'm guessing that anyone reading this is more interested in what cool items we found than in what the weather was like and what places we ate at (check Peter's recent entry if you are interested though).

The answer is we found A LOT of great items, too many to list them all here. The bulk of the shipment should be arriving at the UK office on Friday but a few items are already here and on the website.

If I had to choose my favourite items of the trip they would have to be the great selection of David Bowie original 1960's and early '70's UK white label demo 7"s - Space Oddity, Prettiest Star, the Laughing Gnome, Memory Of A Free Festival, Holy Holy. Also whilst on Bowie, we also picked up both promo and stock copy of the highly desirable Rubber Band 7". ALL of these 7" are in perfect MINT condition.

If Bowie isn't your thing, how about The Rolling Stones legendary The Promotional Album, seldom seen this is only the second time we've seen this in good enough condition to stock. Collectors who are familiar with this item know that they are quite often wrecked!

Pinch Punch 1st day of the Month.......

Hello all.

Time for another update; when I last spoke to you, I was just about to go and travel upto Camden, London to see Editors at Koko. For those who were either there or saw footage of it online or on TV, I think you will agree with me when I say that they were flippin' brilliant. Their live show is fantastic. I am now planning on getting some tickets for their newly announced UK tour in March 2008 which I am looking forward too and would easily recommend that you go and see them. You won't regret it!! BRING ON ARCADE FIRE IN 2 WEEKS.....

Anyhow, back to business. And WOW, have I got some lovely new titles for you all including:

THE KILLERS Sawdust
The Killers will release brand new single, 'Tranquilize'. The single features the band's Brandon Flowers in a duet with Lou Reed, and is taken from the band's forthcoming album of B-sides and rarities, 'Sawdust', which is itself set for release on November 12th. The band will be breaking with usual protocol by making the track available to buy just hours after it airs as a worldwide exclusive on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show at 7pm.
'Tranquilize' first made an appearance during sessions for last year's multi-million selling album, 'Sam's Town', the follow up to 2004 breakthrough, 'Hot Fuss'. They picked it up again this summer during a break to their 'Sam's Town' touring schedule, approaching former Velvet Underground leader Reed for vocal duties and getting together with him in a New York studio with 'Sam's Town' producers Flood and Alan Moulder last month. As Flowers told NME recently, "We were thrilled to be able to work with Lou Reed. The song required a duet and his voice was just right. The sentiment of the song is very him."
Alongside 'Tranquilize', the tracklisting for the 'Sawdust' album includes a cover of Joy Division's 'Shadowplay' (from Anton Corbijn's biopic, 'Control') and 'Move Away' (from 'Spiderman 3'); as well as a cover of Kenny Rogers & t...

Good for the soul, bad for the wallet ...

Looks like I shall be making a return visit to Ronnie's after several years ...

The opportunity to see Mr Beck close up is just too good to miss.

Still the Guv'nor.

So, if you see a poor impoverished soul dressed in rags at the early Saturday show, please buy him a drink.

See you there !

Vinyl May Be Final Nail in CD's Coffin
There's an
interesting article on Wired's Listending Post commenting on the rise vs demise
of vinyl vs CD, suggesting that many consumers are once again preferring vinyl
as their format of choice, alongside MP3s for convenience and portability.
Whilst I can't foresee vinyl resurrecting itself beyond a niche audience it's a
pleasure to see artists and labels once again producing limited edition runs to
satiate the appetite of fans & collectors worldwide.  Our own sales stats
confirm that vinyl remains incredibly popular, and seeing how much great stuff
we've accumulated over the years that's a reassuring trend!

Planet Rock News
Bon Jovi Hit The Highway: New Jersey’s rock heroes are set to embark on a mammoth world tour. Dates for the first leg of the tour in the US have been announced, startedwith a 10 date hometown residency in Newark.

The UK dates are set to be revealed in the coming weeks and as soon as we have them we'll let you know - but you can expect them to arrive this side of the pond some time in the Spring or Summer after the North American leg finishes in April.

Metallica Look To The 80s: Metallica have looked to the 80s for inspiration on their forthcoming new album…but don’t expect any shoulder pads and seagull haircuts just yet.

Speaking to examiner.com, Lars has said that the new album is very nearly complete and with only a few vocal mixes to sort out, it should be ready for release in February.

In the interview the outspoken drummer says that the sound is very much inspired by their own 80s material such as Master of Puppets or Kill ‘Em All, suggesting an epic but aggressive sound rather than the overlong, post-metal dirge of St Anger.

In the interview Ulrich also revealed several of the song titles including ‘19’, ‘10’, ‘German Soup’, ‘Glass Cow’ and ‘Black Squirrel’ – although he adds that these are working titles only and are based upon the circumstances in which they were conceived, rather than the theme of the song (e.g. Glass Cow = Glasgow), which is a shame because a Metallica song about German soup would surely be awesome.

Jeff Beck's Residency: Jeff Beck is taking up a 5 night residency at the newly refurbished Ronnie Scotts in London at the end of November.

The former Yardbird’s guitarist has played some massive venues in his 4 decade career and still tours extensively so this will be a rare opportunity to witness one of the world’s very best and most respected guitarists play in such an intimate venue (no seat is more that 50ft from the artist).

Featuring a band consisting of drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, keyboardist Jason Rebello, and young bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, the dates will see the band performing a range of material from the guitarists 40 year career.

Howdy From Texas, Y'all!  I like to visit Texas for the records, but I LOVE to visit Texas for the food.  My favorite restaurant for traditional Texas BBQ is a little, out-of-the way place called Kreutz Market in Lockhart.  I'm not averse to eating at a national chain restaurant, as long as the food is good... and Texas Roadhouse definitely fits that bill!  In Austin, I always make sure to stop by Threadgill's, which was a favorite hangout of Janis Joplin back in the day.  A Southern delicacy I always crave, but rarely find when I'm not in the South is authentic collard greens -- if I had the skill to cook them up in the traditional southern style myself, I'd never eat anything else!  I know it may be neither glamorous nor exciting to many, but another top gastronomic Texan destination for me is the flagship store for [reply to this topic]

Bundles of Bargains...
A recent addition to our sales team innovations has been the 'bundle deal', where several items from the same artist are er... bundled together with a far more competitive price tag than when buying the items individually.
Usually one-off collections of top-end product for the more discerning collector, these have proved irresistible to our customers and will remain an exclusive feature to the website.

As an example, check out this HALF-PRICE autographed Spice Girls collectors set. Just in time for the comeback tour...

Macca Magic....

Good Afternoon.

I thought that as Sir Paul plays the London Roundhouse tonight as part of the BBC Electric Proms that I would highlight the 3 amazing new releases heading for the shelves in the next few weeks:

PAUL MCCARTNEY Ever Present Past
'Ever Present Past' is the second single to be taken from Paul McCartney's new gold album 'Memory Almost Full'.
"Sometimes I just sit down and try and write a pop song. I've done it throughout my life and it's an interesting thing to try and do, make something kind of catchy that might be attractive on the radio or whatever. So I was just going over personal feelings, it starts off "I've got too much on my plate" and then the way I write I just follow that thought and think, 'what did I mean by that? Explain yourself!' So then I think 'well what I meant was' and then it eventually just panned out that after I'd got the verse it just became this idea of my past, my 'Ever Present Past'.
No deep meaning in it. I think what happens with me is, I just write a thing and people read more into it and I kind of like that because I think often you do things in a subliminal way, you don't actually realise what you are doing. So something that I might think is quite a simple statement, somebody might go, 'yeah but it means that!' So I like that, I like there to be multiple meanings to these things even though I often just started off as a phrase that's really just to help me write the song and get me onto the next bit. So really it's just basically a pop song and I recorded it with David (Kahne) and we just treated it that way, bit of guitar, bit of bass drum, bit of this, that and the other." - Sir Paul McCartney
