Joy Division began as Warsaw, formed by Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook, later joined by Stephen Morris after original drummer Steve Brotherdale left following the band's earliest demo sessions. This record documents that pre-fame chapter: eleven tracks recorded in May 1978 for an album backed by two promoters intent on securing the band a deal with RCA, including early versions of "Shadowplay," "Transmission" and "Interzone," the latter built on the backing track of "Keep On Keepin' On" with the band's own lyrics added over it, "Transmission" written during the band's final week of rehearsals. Released on 24 June 1997 by Disney-owned Hollywood Records, The Great Milenko was recalled from stores within hours over concerns about its content, despite 100,000 copies already having shipped. Insane Clown Posse's contract was terminated and the album reissued that August by Island Records exactly as intended, going on to sell over two million copies and earn double platinum certification. The record features an unlikely lineup of guest musicians, Slash of Guns N' Roses, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols and Alice Cooper all appear, and includes "Hokus Pokus," "Halls of Illusions" and "What Is A Juggalo?", tracks that helped define the Juggalo movement for a wider audience. Released in 1987, Hai Hai is the second solo album from former Supertramp singer, guitarist and keyboardist Roger Hodgson, recorded at his own Unicorn Studio in Nevada City and co-produced with Jack Joseph Puig, who would go on to work with No Doubt and the Black Crowes. The album leans on an extensive cast of Los Angeles session musicians, including Toto's Jeff Porcaro and David Paich, alongside 1980s synthesizer production that carries clear echoes of Supertramp's own sound. Among its ten tracks is "Land Ho," co-written with former Supertramp bandmate Rick Davies back in 1974, one of the few songs on the record not written by Hodgson alone, a rare studio reunion of the pair's old songwriting partnership. Roger Hodgson had already begun preparing his debut solo record while still technically a member of Supertramp, drawing on songs including "Hooked on a Problem" and "Only Because of You," both originally written and recorded for the band's 1982 album ...Famous Last Words... but left off entirely amid growing creative tension between Hodgson and RickDavies. Hodgson later described those sessions bluntly, saying "the fun had gone... that album was a final attempt to see if something could be salvaged. It couldn't." Once he left the band, Hodgson revisited and re-recorded the songs from scratch, initially under the working title Sleeping With the Enemy, before ultimately withholding that version and releasing the record as In the Eye of the Storm in 1984. Formed in Newcastle in 1979, Venom's first two albums, Welcome to Hell and Black Metal, proved so influential that the latter's title lent its name to an entire extreme metal subgenre, cited ever since by bands including Metallica, Celtic Frost and Mayhem. Released in April 1984, At War With Satan took a genuine creative risk:rather than another set of short, aggressive songs, the entire first side is given over to a 20-minute title track, inspired by frontman Cronos's love of Rush's 2112 and drawn from a story he'd first started writing back in school. Shortly after release, HMV pulled the album from its shelves over its content, a controversy that only fuelled interest rather than dampening it. The epic title track went unplayed live for years, only later reworked and shortened by Cronos for his solo project. FOX THE FOX Precious Little Diamond (Limited Edition 2026 UK/EU 4-track 12" single pressed on Clear Vinyl, limited to 500 copies. Released in 1984, "Precious Little Diamond" became a genuine worldwidehit for Dutch funk band Fox the Fox, peaking at number five in Germany and the US, alongside further chart success across France, the UK, Italy and Belgium. George Michael was reportedly a huge fan of the track and personally introduced the band to CBS Records that same year, while Dieter Bohlen of Modern Talking has cited the song's falsetto chorus as a direct inspiration for his own songwriting. The track resurfaced decades later when The Weeknd sampled its melody, chorus and part of the original lyrics on 2013's "Wanderlust."
