Following on from the enormous success they achieved last year with the release of their Number 1 album 'Face To Face', Westlife return with a catchy mid-tempo love song that is proving to be a firm favourite from the album. Following a well-deserved 4-month break over the summer of 2005, Westlife stormed back into the charts, immediately hitting the Number 1 spot with their smash single 'You Raise Me Up'. Since then, the Irish superstars have maintained a constant presence in the charts with the further release of Face To Face [which sold a staggering 1.1million copies over the counter in the first 8 weeks in the UK alone] and then came the sensational collaboration with Diana Ross, which saw the group celebrating 2 songs in the Top 10 at the same time. Said Shane, "the success of the new album has been phenomenal and we are really enjoying being back in the thick of it all again. 7 albums in, we never expected to still be enjoying such success, and Face To Face is on course to be our biggest album to date which is fantastic news". Following the release of 'Amazing', Westlife are looking forward to hitting the road in April when they kick off 'Face To Face '06 - The Tour', tickets for which sold out in an incredible 24 hours. With much to look forward to, it would seem that 2006 will continue to see the rise of the UK?s biggest and most unstoppable force on the charts. EELS 'With Strings - Live At Town Hall' Release Date 20/02/06 You never know what you'll get when you attend an Eels concert. One year it's vocoders and synthesizers, the next it's gritty garage rock. Cut to 2005: Eels leader Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, releases the highly acclaimed 'Blinking Lights and Other Revelations' double album and assembles his most ambitious version of the Eels yet: a seven piece band consisting of Everett backed by a string quartet and two multi-instrumentalists juggling lap steel, guitar, upright bass, mandolin, saw, melodica, celeste, pump organ, piano, and a trash can and suitcase drum set. Having brought this elaborate show to Boston the night before, can the Eels get to New York, play Late Night with David Letterman, and perform their concert at the legendary Town Hall, which is being filmed for a concert film - all with grace under incredible pressure? The answer is yes, and the proof is here! Now you can have the best seat in the house. Enjoy 28 songs from all phases of the Eels' ten year career, along with great songs by other artists as interpreted by Eels with strings, and rare backstage and behind the scenes footage of life on the road with Eels. No tickets, no parking hassles, no drunk guy blocking your view. Just the spine-tingling performance of Eels with strings, Live at Town Hall! RAY DAVIES 'Other Peoples Lives' Release Date 20/02/06 ![]() THE WONDER STUFF 'Suspended By Stars' Release Date 20/02/06 'Suspended By Stars' is the most definitive Wonder Stuff album to date. Written by the whole band, this album has the rawness of 'Eight Legged Groove Machine', the folkiness of 'Hup', the maturity of 'Construction For The Modern Idiot' with an overall feel of 'Never Loved Elvis' mainly thanks to the superb fiddle playing by new member Erica Nockles. With 18 top 20 singles and 3 top 10 albums under their belt, this album will be released on the band's 20th Anniversary of forming. Mixed by the legendary Paul Tipler [80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Suede, Stereolab, Frank Black, Elastica, Starsailor] the album combines the indie, rock, folk, pop sound in a way that will not disappoint Wonder Stuff fans of every era. To view all the forthcoming releases click here JOSEPH ARTHUR 'Devils Broom' Release Date 13/02/2006 Joseph Arthur releases the brilliant 'Devil's Broom' on 13th February 2006. 'Devil's Broom' is taken from his album 'Our Shadows Will Remain', released in 2005 to blanket critical acclaim. Q wrote, "This year?s best singer-songwriter has arrived", the Sunday Times said, "As good as it gets" & The Sun said, "Possibly the best singer-songwriter around". Joseph has a reputation as one of America?s most astounding live performers; sounding less like a solo artist than an electro-rock quartet. His trick is to record and loop effects-laden sounds live and play and sing on top. He also creates huge painted canvasses live on stage. He was hand picked by Coldplay and by REM to support them in the US, and his headline July and October 2005 UK tours were a complete sell out. TALKING HEADS 'Speaking In Tongues' Release Date 13/02/2006 ![]() VELVET UNDERGROUND 'Velvet Redux Live MCMXCIII' DVD Release Date 13/02/2006 When the Velvet Underground decided to call it quits in 1970, the last thing anyone expected was for them to reform. But in 1993 they announced plans for a reunion tour in Europe which also included opening for U2 on select dates. Shortly after this, Sterling Morrison passed away, so this is the only DVD to capture the entire original line-up. 'Velvet Redux: Live MCMXCIII' contains not only brilliantly extended versions of Velvets? classics like 'Femme Fatale', 'Pale Blue Eyes' and 'Heroin' but also ultra obscure numbers such as the bombastic 'Hey Mr Rain' and drummer Moe Tucker's sweetly innocent singing on 'I'm Sticking With You'. This DVD stands as a fitting tribute to both Morrison and the legacy of The Velvet Underground. LIZ MCCLARNON 'Woman In Love' Release Date 13/02/2006 NICKELBACK 'Far Away' Release Date 13/02/2006 THE JAM 'Snap!' Release Date 13/02/2006 ![]() ROBIN S 'Show Me Love' Release Date 13/02/2006 Robin S ?Show Me Love? is the most successful single ever to be released on Champion Records. It has sold over half a million copies in the UK and has appeared on over 100 compilation albums. The ?Chime Bar? riff introduced by Stonebridge is one of the most recognizable in house music. If ever the word ?Classic? was attached to a dance record it would have to be ?Show Me Love?. It is a regular on the Dave Pearce Dance Anthems show on Radio 1 and has been one of the most played records in Kiss Records history. For this package the ?Classic? original Stonebridge mix opens the batting and is supported by brand new mixes by Todd Edwards [Beyonce, Craig David, Daniel Bedingfield], Diesel [X-Press II] & Kerri Chandler. PAUL WELLER 'As Is Now EP' Release Date 13/02/2006 Only available for Out Requests as is limited to 6000 copies and will only be available for a week! SPARKS 'Perfume' Release Date 13/02/2006 The first single to be lifted from the bands 20th album ?Hello Young Lovers? comes in the form of ?Perfume?. The release will be a must for any Sparks fan as all the mixes on the CD are previously un-released and as such will be hunted down by the bands loyal followers. PAUL WELLER 'The Changing Man - Live at Chelmsford 1996' DVD Release Date 13/02/2006 DEFAULT 'One Thing Remains' Release Date 06/02/2006 "We're pretty much reinventing ourselves as a band". That's a fairly heavy statement for any singer to make, especially someone who fronts a relatively young band with a million-plus in record sales, several massive rock radio hits ['Wasting My Time', 'Deny', 'Taking My Life Away'], a bunch of late-night TV show appearances and more than a few sold-out tours with some of the biggest alt and active rock groups in the country under its belt. But Dallas Smith, frontman of the platinum rock band Default, knew that something needed to change before the group started work on its third record. The album's two standout tracks, meanwhile, showcase the band's depth and range. 'Count On Me', the first single [co-written by Chad Kroeger], is an upbeat, anthemic track that?s already hit it big on rock radio, even before the song?s official release. "It?s a very positive song for us, and it gets away from the relationship-heavy lyrics that we?ve been doing for so long" says Smith. "Chad and producer Bob Marlette really helped us expand our world view on this album". But the band also performs a 180 degree turn on the opening track 'All Is Forgiven', a lush, mid-tempo rocker with a shimmery guitar sound that, at times, recalls an early 90s U2. It?s a departure for the band, and Smith is damn proud of it. "We changed that song a million times", he remembers. "In some ways, it doesn?t sound like our band, but it?s my favourite song on the record, and I wanted to lead off with that. It was important to me". JASON MRAZ 'Mr A-Z' Release Date 06/02/2006 Jason Mraz is set to release his pseudo-self titled new album 'Mr A-Z' on February 6, 2006. Produced by the legendary Steve Lillywhite [U2, the Rolling Stones, Talking Heads et al] at Allaire Studios near Woodstock, NY; 'Mr A-Z' is the inspired follow-up to Mraz?s acclaimed 2003 debut record 'Waiting For My Rocket To Come' which has to date sold over a million copies worldwide. IDIOT PILOT 'Strange We Should Meet Here' Release Date 06/02/2006 ![]() JEAN MICHEL JARRE 'Solidarnosc' Release Date 06/02/2006 Over 170,000 people turned out on 26 August 2005 for the concert of French electronic music composer Jean Michel Jarre to mark the 25th anniversary of Poland's Solidarity trade union which helped bring down communism. Jean Michel Jarre had come to Gdansk at the invitation of the Polish Nobel Prize laureate Lech Walesa. The state-of-the-art concert accompanied by the Gdansk Symphony Orchestra and Polish choirs, was held at the naval shipyards in the northern town of Gdansk where Lech Walesa's Solidarnosc, the first free trade union in the Soviet bloc, was founded in August 1980. In front of an enthusiastic crowd massed amidst the shipyards' immense cranes, Jarre played some well-known tracks including the Oxygene and Equinoxe suites amongst his new repertoire. The cutting-edge concert was the first of its kind in Poland. High-definition video images were projected onto huge warehouses, light beams, fireworks and architectural lighting transformed the dusty shipyard into a giant multimedia fresco. 7 million viewers watched the concert on television. Jarre played a special work written for the occasion, 'Solidarity Tonight', and invited Lech Walesa onto the stage for a huge ovation. LOGGINS & MESSINA 'Live: Sittin' In Again At The Santa Barbara Bowl' DVD Release Date 06/02/2006 Almost 30 years after their 1976 break-up, the hugely successful duo of Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina took their hit making magic on the road once again in 2005. When they first came together, Kenny Loggins was an acclaimed songwriter and Jim Messina a former member of both Buffalo Springfield and Poco. Their combined talents delivered a host of chart hits and timeless favourites that remain classics of the singer-songwriter pop-rock genre. 'Live...' finds these two consummate musicians revisiting the music that made them famous with the passion and energy that have inspired fans for decades. This DVD captures them in front of their hometown audience on a sold out national tour, playing the songs that were the soundtrack of the '70s including 'Danny's Song', 'Your Mama Don't Dance', 'Thinking of You' and 'Vahevala'. The DVD also includes 6 bonus performances from 1973 on the television show Midnight Special. Over 2 hours of classics including their hits 'Your Mama Don't Dance', 'Thinking Of You' and 'Vahevala'. THE ALARM MMVI 'Superchannel' Release Date 06/02/2006 THE ALARM MMVI 'Under Attack' 20/02/2006 In 2004 The Alarm, disguised under pseudonym The Poppyfields, scored a Top Thirty single with '45 RPM,' thanks to a video featuring the much younger Welsh band the Wayriders lip-synching the tune. "We weren't trying to be malicious," says Mike Peters, the group's founder and front man, "We were just trying to open the debate up, because there's so much music that gets played based on image. These days the song and the content get left behind?Ultimately, the hope is that maybe now people will sit up and listen to our records again." And listen they did. The hoax grabbed the attention of the UK music industry and will be the subject of a forthcoming Hollywood movie production. EMI/Liberty is proud to present the Alarm MMVI - a 2006 incarnation of a band whose history goes back to 1978 when they started life in Rhyl, North Wales, under the name Seventeen. After a change of name to 'Alarm Alarm', they finally settled on 'The Alarm' when they heard John Peel describe them as "another two-name band" [like Duran Duran or Talk Talk]. In 1983 & 1984, signed to IRS, their album 'Declaration' spawned the hits '68 Guns' and 'Where Were You Hiding When the Storm Broke'. A further four albums followed before the original line-up split in 1991. Mike Peters pursued solo projects for some time and briefly re-formed the band, but the present line-up is of four years' standing. This new recording follows the lead of that Poppyfields hit - and further proves that they can sound as fresh and dynamic as a group 20 years their junior. Suspend any preconceptions and you'll discover a rollercoaster of an album. From the raucous punk of 'Cease and Desist' to the spiky syncopation of 'Raindown' - there are echoes here of the Clash and the Cult, tempered by the expansive, passionate rock sound with which Peters originally found fame. 'Under Attack' was produced by the band, along with Martin Wilding [Poppy Fields/Doves] and George Williams [Babyshambles], with additional mixes by Pete Walsh [Simple Minds/Scott Walker]. THE SOURCE featuring CANDI STATON 'You Got The Love' Release Date 06/02/2006 ![]() GOLDFRAPP 'Ride A White Horse' Release Date 13/02/2006 THE MAGIC NUMBERS 'I See You, You See Me' Release Date 13/02/2006 CORNERSHOP featuring ROWETTA 'Wop The Groove' Release Date 13/02/2006 In 2003 Cornershop embarked upon making their first film; about London?s independent music industry, looking at aspects and views of normal bands that make music and those that contribute to the music industry - it includes interviews with John Peel, guitar shop legend Andy Hackett, footage of the vinyl making process, and a 10 minute drum solo. Wop The Groove is the title track for this film. There's no beating around the bush with this one, a quality track with a heavy duty riff and Rowetta on top form. The track sounded vastly different to what was going on when it was recorded, & the difference is even more so today - written & produced by Tjinder Singh, also known as the national debt - recorded at Sassi P. Studio, Vatican City. White labels have already been getting heavy rotation in Detroit, New York and Paris. The Factory Records stable have always given solid support to the Cornershop firmament, & it was this connection that led to this collaboration. TIGA 'Sexor'' Release Date 06/02/2006 With a host of hugely recognisable dance hits already under his belt Tiga has been whetting the appetite of the dance fraternity for the last 3 years. Responsible for crossover dance hits as well as bonafide club classics such as 'Sunglasses At Night', 'Hot In Herre' and 'Pleasure From The Bass' he has also announced his intentions to the mainstream, whilst proving the remixer of choice recently with much feted remixes of the likes of LCD Soundsystem, The Kills, Mylo and Thomas Anderson. Recorded half in Ghent with Stephen and David Dewaele of Soulwax [aka occasional mash-up kings 2 Many DJs], and half in Stockholm with Swedish techno producer Jesper Dahlb?ck, 'Sexor' finds Tiga in spine-tingling form, singing on every track and for good masure a guest inclusion from Scissor Sister?s Jake Shears on club smash ?You Gonna Want Me?. The album?s foundation song is 'Pleasure From The Bass' and the result as a whole is a hugely satisfying listen. Album opener and future single '(Far From) Home' sets the tone with its wonderfully unique pop feel and from there on in the delights come thick and fast from Tiga's take on deep Italo-disco in 'Good As Gold' to cover versions of Talking Heads' 'Burning Down The House' and Nine Inch Nails' 'Down In It'. 'Brothers' raises the stomp factor with another hook filled stormer, then there's 'Three Weeks', a beautiful and intensely personal song about love and loss. After years of excursions and diversions, Tiga has knuckled down, pulled in all his experiences, and crafted a brilliant set. The core tracklisting of the triple vinyl is the same as the CD version, but cleverly includes extended edit of some tracks, whereas the CD contains hidden tracks. ROBERT POLLARD 'From The Compound Eye' Release Date 06/02/2006 When things came to an end with Guided By Voices, Pollard made no secret of the fact that this would not mean the end of his songwriting and recording career. If anything, it was a new beginning. In leaving behind his main vehicle of expression for the last 20 years, Pollard freed himself from the expectations of 'the next Guided By Voices record'. This freedom meant recording when he wanted, what he wanted, with whomever he wanted. The result 'From A Compound Eye' is no less stunning than anything he has produced thus far in his illustrious career: a collection of 26 brand new songs. What the press are saying: "Peerless pop nous... veers from multi-track majesty to lo-fi intimacy" - Mojo; "Music seems to come pouring out of some people: Mozart, the young Rossini, Paul McCartney, Prince and now Robert Pollard" - New York Times. COLDER 'To The Music' Release Date 06/02/2006 Featuring original versions and remixes by Engel - Oskar Melzer and Tobi Neumman [Miss Kittin, Chicks On Speed, The Glove], Midnight Mike [Gomma / Tigersushi], Lotterboys [Eskimo Records / Terranova], and Arto Mwambe [Punkt Music]. Video directed by UVA [United Visual Artists], the live visual creatives for Massive Attack, U2, Basement Jaxx etc. Debut album 'Again' was heralded as one of the most accomplished releases of 2003.To view all the forthcoming releases click here MARK EVETTS - UK 80's & 90's INDIE, PUNK & NEW WAVE BUYER Thursday 26th Jan 2006 Factory Label: 2 rare items for the Palatine release The CD box set complete with booklet and the video. Whether solo or backed by a full band, he loses himself in his songs. It is the same quality of intensity captured in his promo for 'You're Beautiful', included here with his other videos. The bonus second disc comprises the the band?s historic one-hour closing set from the closing night of Bill Graham?s fillmore West on July 4th 1971, clocking in at 59 minutes with the 11-song concert sequence intact as it was heard that night. NEIL DIAMOND '12 Songs' Release Date 20/2/06 Columbia Records releases '12 Songs', the first new studio album from Neil Diamond in four years, in February 2006. On its release in the US, the album entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number four - Neil?s highest ever week one album chart position. One of the year's most heavily-anticipated new releases, '12 Songs' pairs the pop music icon with legendary producer Rick Rubin. Producing a Neil Diamond album has been a long-time dream for Rubin, whose extraordinary resume spans the history of hip-hop from LL Cool J to Jay Z, the world of hardcore rock from Slayer to System Of A Down, and the pantheon of mythic stars from Tom Petty and Donovan to Mick Jagger and Johnny Cash's immortal Grammy-winning American Recordings series. "After the first few meetings," writes Neil Diamond in his revelatory liner notes to '12 Songs', "I realized (Rick) loved music in the same way I did. For both of us it was visceral, passionate and could even be an elevating experience. It turned out that we served the same mistress - music, and that was to become our first real connection." According to Neil, "I locked myself in the recording studio with a whole box of number 2 pencils, a big stack of my trusty yellow legal pads and a funky old three-quarter size Martin Guitar with an E minor chord that could break your heart?.Rick was determined not to rush the process, but to wait until we got to the essence of the songs I was working on. I loved the sheer freedom of creating music for its own sake." "Most of the songs were recorded with Neil playing and singing at the same time," said Rick Rubin in a Rolling Stone article (9/22/05) profiling the producer, "and it's a different animal. It's taking him back to being more of a singer-songwriter. He really blows me away." When Sparks? last album 'Lil? Beethoven' hit the streets critics lauded and applauded, fans smiled smugly with overdue vindication and fellow musicians wept when faced with the reality that, once again, Sparks had raised the bar by which all other albums should be judged. Now the Angeleno brothers Ron and Russell Mael present 'Hello Young Lovers', their 20th album. To achieve such enormity and expansiveness Ron and Russell Mael worked in a limitless vacuum for the best part of 18 months. The only inspiration taken from any current music was the provocation to go as far as possible in the opposite direction. BETH ORTON Comfort Of Strangers Release Date 13/02/06 In February 2006, nearly ten years on from her Platinum-selling debut album 'Trailer Park', Beth Orton releases her fourth album 'Comfort Of Strangers'. Recorded over a two week period in New York in the spring of 2005 with producer/collaborator Jim O'Rourke, 'Comfort Of Strangers' is possibly Beth's most intimate and personal work to date, and features 14 songs which are at times sad, funny, playful and poignant, romantic, always lyrical and on occasion even a touch sentimental. Indeed, coming after her opening trilogy of albums, 'Comfort of Strangers' represents a total sense of reinvention, a fabulous alchemy resulting from a set of simple rules that Beth Orton decided for the new CD, which included only analog recordings, with sparse arrangements and a spontaneous, almost live, feel. In fact it's mostly a 'one take' CD - two takes maximum, with minimal overdubs. |
