TRACY CHAPMAN Tracy Chapman (2026 Argentine Plaza Independencia Musica 11-track black vinyl LP, with lyric insert. Released in 1988 and recorded at Powertrax Studios in Hollywood with producer David Kershenbaum, Tracy Chapman isa stark, largely acoustic record built around voice, guitar and storytelling, rooted in the folk tradition Chapman had honed busking and playing coffeehouses through college. AllMusic has called it a genuine touchstone of the era, noting itsounds as though it could have been recorded fifteen years earlier, were it not for lyrics unmistakably shaped by the economic realities of the late 1980s. "Fast Car" carries that tension directly: a character study of poverty, dead-end work and the fantasy of simply driving away from it all, delivered with such plainspoken detail that Chapman had to clarify publicly it wasn't autobiographical. "Talkin' 'bout a Revolution," written years earlier while she was still in high school, sits alongside quieter, more intimate songs like "Behind the Wall" and "For My Lover," tracing a range from protest to confession across just eleven tracks. The album topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. Housed inside a picture sleeve with a lyric insert, factory sealed. Recommended)
