Deface The Currency marks the second collaboration between The Messthetics and tenor saxophonist James Brandon Lewis, capturing the combustible chemistry forged across 150 shows in a single year. Recorded immediately after a European tour, the album channels the raw momentum of the stage into a focused studio statement - sharp, agileand rhythmically relentless. Guitarist Anthony Pirog's angular lines intersect with Lewis' searching improvisations, while Brendan Canty and Joe Lally (of Fugazi) provide a taut, propulsive foundation. Complex unison figures, open-ended structures and spontaneous interplay define a set that blurs the boundaries between post-hardcore urgency and forward-thinking jazz.
