Pressed on 140-gram Black Vinyl, this LP captures a musical dialogue first sparked during sessions for Oumou Sangaré's landmark album Seya, produced by Nick Gold and Mamadou Haïdara. Though their home cultures lie geographically close, the balafon traditions of Kenedougou and the hunter-centred donso n'goni music of Wassoulou rarely intersect. What began as informal exchanges between Solo and Diakité during warm-ups evolved into a fully realised session built around traditional songs known across Mali. Solo performs on a customised balafon with an extended bass register, while Diakité brings the depth of his lowest-tuned donso n'goni. Initially conceived as a purely instrumental project, the recordings expanded organically: subtle vocal and percussion arrangements were added, followed by understated contributions from English musician Sonny Johns on strings, mellotron, guitar, and bass. Parts were recorded across different countries, each layer inspiring the next, resulting in an album that feels both spontaneous and carefully shaped. Long respected within Mali as musicians' musicians, Solo and Diakité now step onto an international stage alongside artists such as Salif Keita, Ali Farka Touré, Toumani Diabaté, Tinariwen, Songhoy Blues, Amadou and Mariam, Rokia Traoré and Fatoumata Diawara-artists who have previously found global audiences through World Circuit and Nonesuch.
