LP pressed on 200-gram Super-Heavyweight Vinyl.
Originally released in September 1979, Drums And
Wires arrived amid an extraordinarily strong year for
post-punk, alongsidedebuts from Gang of Four, Joy Division
and The Specials and confident third albums from Wire,
Talking Heads and Elvis Costello. Produced by Steve Lillywhite
with engineer Hugh Padgham, the album marked a shift for
XTC as Dave Gregory joined onguitar in place of organist
Barry Andrews, reconfiguring the band around a twin
guitar/bass/drums line-up. Both Andy Partridge and Colin
Moulding were sharpening as songwriters at this point, and
the record helped establish the band's reputation for sharp,
melodic post-punk songwriting, while Lillywhite and
Padgham's studio work gave more expansive tracks like
"Roads Girdle The Globe" and "Complicated Game" added
depth. The album spent seven weeks on the UK Albums Chart,
and its lead track, "Making Plans For Nigel," became the
band's first Top 20 hit single in the UK and internationally.
This edition presents the album on 200g vinyl for the first
time, newly cut by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering and fully
approved by Andy Partridge and the band. Picture sleeve with
hype sticker, factory sealed) )
