pressed on classic black vinyl. Mike Nichols' <I>The
Graduate</I> remains one of the defining films of the late
1960s, and its soundtrack is inseparable from the film's wry,
restless mood. Alternating between Paul Simon's songwriting
and Dave Grusin's sharply satirical Swingin' Sixties cues, the
album captures the collision of innocence, desire and cultural
shift that madethe film so enduring. Simon & Garfunkel's
contributions - "Mrs. Robinson," "The Sound of Silence,"
"Scarborough Fair/Canticle," and "April Come She Will" -
provide the emotional core, while Grusin's instrumentals
("The Singleman Party Foxtrot," "Sunporch Cha-Cha-Cha,"
"On the Strip") echo the film's sense of anxious energy and
suburban absurdity. Much like Nelson Riddle's parodic turn on
Kubrick's Lolita, Grusin uses period tropes with a deliberately
arch edge, offering commentary as much as accompaniment.
