The Beatles Something New - 1st UK vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
EMI exported to countries & territories that had limited manufacturing capacity. In addition, they supplied recordings to British & American Service bases around the world. To this degree, EMI manufactured three 'Export Only' albums to be sold thrugh PX at American Service bases that were normally issued on Capitol in the United States.
'Something New' was the first of these three albums, being issued in July 1965 with a unique catalogue number. The first batch of these that were delivered had 'Sold In The UK' text printed on the labels [& a 'K/T' tax code for side one] in error as they were never intended to be sold in the UK at all. These rare first pressings were immediately recalled & the errant 'Sold In The UK' text was correctly removed for a second export issue. How many of these early pressings were made is unknown but it was a very low number...
Labels:-
These are as per the UK mainstream releases in that they are the familiar black label with yellow 'Parlophone' logo & silver print text. They have 'Made In Gt. Britain' text at the bottom & 'The Parlophone Co' perimeter print. There is no writing or sticker residue & there are just a few spindle marks around the centre hole. We have never stocked an export copy of Something New with the 'Sold In UK' print, as found here, it's seriously hard to find! For a Beatles label completist, this rare export find is a must.
Condition:
The sleeve is manufactured by Garrod & Lofthouse & is of front laminated flipback design with 'Patents Pending' text on the bottom flip. As is most often the case with these, the front of the sleeve shows several light ring wear creases to the laminate and some edge and corner scuffing, but believe me it is normally a lot worse! The unlaminated back shows some discolouration through handling & remains mostly white, despite its history. There is a vintage price sticker affixed on the back panel, top right. The flipbacks are still secure, the colours remain bright & the spine clearly readable. A healthy VG+ example.
The vinyl has not been played to excess and appears to have been well looked after. The labels are in Excellent condition, the main selling point here, with only the light evidence of play by the spindle hole. As per the UK releases of this period, this has an 'EMITex' lined inner. The vinyl grades VG+/EX- with some minor paper scuffs & the occasional light hairline either side, not affecting play. Both sides have been professionally cleaned on a high end Matrix machine & the vinyl has a nice, deep sheen both sides. All in all, this is a superb example half a century on. It's a piece of Beatles history we have never been able to offer before in all our thirty years of trading & thus comes highly recommended.
