Despite hopeful eBay seller claims, this album was issued simultaneously both with & without 'An E.M.I. Recording' text on the stereo labels. It is not uncommon to find labels with & without in the same sleeve as issued. This confusion has arisen because the first batch of MONO labels were printed without the text, but for the stereo either were used.
This copy DOES have 'An E.M.I. Recording' on all four labels.
The fully laminated, top opening, internal flipback picture sleeve is in great condition. The unique number is stamped onto the front of the sleeve with 'The BEATLES' embossed. This copy is a very low numbered 0024684.
With the lack of a grey 'Stereo' on the back of the sleeve & being such a low number, this points to it actually being a Mono sleeve, although both catalogue numbers were printed on the spine.
The white sleeve, notorious for yellowing, shows only mild discolouration, and is more ivory than pure white. There is a little light shelfwear & minor scuffing at the corners but nothing much to write home about.
The four portraits remain in very nice condition although there are small pin-holes evident.
The large fold-out double sided colour poster is free of all but small creasing from handling. There are pencil annotations against the tracks indicating the vocalists. These have been left 'as is' but can be removed, should you so desire, with an eraser.
Period black company inners complete the package & are die-cut on one side.
The labels are Apple labels with 'Sold in the UK" & 'An EMI Recording' text.
The matrix numbers are machine stamped into the dead vinyl, they are as follows:
Side One YEX 709-1
Side Two YEX 710-1
Side Three YEX 711-1
Side Four YEX 712-1
The vinyl remains in VG+/EX- condition with a few light surface scuffs evident, although nothing to interfere with play. Background noise is kept to a minimum although can be heard at times in quiet passages.
A very acceptable, if not mint, copy of this low numbered first stereo issue at an advantageous price.
