The Beatles Let It Be - 2nd Variant New Zealand vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
This album was released in small quantities in New Zealand, but even so managed to throw up a few variantions.
The first version labels for this [quantity unknown] had a black label background and white-ish perimeter text. These could possibly have been a locally printed stop gap until the main bulk of the labels were delivered. I don't know. The second version label [this one] had a more dark green label background with green perimeter text. As far as I can see, this was a continuous run for the first batch of LPs pressed. It is equally possible that these labels were to replace a shortfall in the normal labels and actually came after the green ones, but this is less likely. There was a later pressing, but these had 'Made in New Zealand by EMI (N.Z.) Limited', not 'Made in New Zealand by His Master's Voice (N.Z.) Limited'. Just to add to the confusion, there is actually a third Apple label variant which was orange. When these were is unsure, but they were visible on all albums that ended up released on Apple, which was all of them. My guessing is that there would have been a run of them at the same time, but the only thing that is sure is that they were earlier than the 'Made in New Zealand by EMI (N.Z.) Limited' labels.
The initial run of sleeves had the EMI logo on the back at the bottom and blue text outside the white box. The later 'EMI' version sleeves have the text moved inside the white box & the EMI logo moved to the top left of the white box. Both of these sleeves were fully laminated. Once more there is a third variation, which is closer to the Australian style, matte, and with the text moved back outside the white box again, even though the EMI logo stayed where it was at top left. All the NZ sleeves have a red apple on the back.
Just to add to the fun there was also a version of the box set issued.
So, where does this leave us ?
This is the second version label with the dark green background and the first version sleeve with text and logo in blue at the bottom. If you look carefully, you will notice that the 'Printed and made in Great Britain by Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd' text has simply been coloured brown, rather than completely obliterated. This was pressed from the UK supplied -3U stampers.
Condition
The sleeve shows just light shelfwear, with some minor creasing to the laminate and a bit of scuffing to the corners. The pinched spine is still clearly readable. Quite nice, in fact.
The vinyl remains in VG+/EX- condition with just very light surface scuffs to show for its forty five years. It has obviously seen play but not to excess.
A very reasonable copy of this extremely hard to find pressing.
