The Beatles With The Beatles - 1st - Stickered Sleeve UK vinyl LP album (LP record)

Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
The labels are the classic black & yellow Parlophone design, they have minimal wear & clear bright silver text. They have "The Parlophone Co Ltd" text around the perimeter & "Recording First Published 1963" at 9 o'clock, but do not have "Sold in the UK" text. On side two, 'Money' is credited to 'Jobete Mus.' where later pressings have 'Dominion Belinda' credit. All indicators of a first pressing. Both labels and sleeve have the 'You Really Gotta Hold On Me' misprint.
Complete with "use Emitex" poly lined inner.
Apart from a couple of scratches across 'Please Mr Postman', the vinyl shows just a few light surface scuffs which do not interfere with play. The centre hole shows evidence of many spindle marks, indicating reasonable levels of play. Upon playtesting, a degree of surface noise was present, although it plays through without fault. There are clicks apparent at times, although no skipping or jumping occurs. As with most early stereo LPs with the hard Left-Right panning of vocals and instruments, some burring can be heard on the vocal parts towards the end of the sides. This is the inevitable result of high pressure turntable arms and centrifugal force acting on the stylus to put higher pressure on the outer groove. As the arm moves inward, this outward pressure gets greater. By contrast, the other channel is less worn for the same reason. Either way, not the best of play copies and it can only be graded G+/VG- even though it actually looks better than that.
The Garrod & Lofthouse front laminated flipback picture sleeve is in nice condition. It benefits from secure, undamaged flipbacks with no evidence of repair, undamaged edges & clearly readable spine. This first G&L sleeve has the 'dark' version of the front photo with large block 'mono' hidden under the sticker on the front & the 'Gotta' misprint on the back, along with 'Patents Pending' text on the bottom flipback. What is extremely unusual about this copy is that it is overstickered with a large block 'stereo' sticker on the front & another sticker with the stereo information covering up the mono catalogue number on the rear of the sleeve. This would indicate a very early copy, presumably before the stereo sleeves were printed. As stereo copies of albums were by special order only, although the plates would have been prepared for pressing, it is quite possible that the sleeves & proper bulk stereo shipments did not start until early 1964. We certainly have never seen anything like this before. Overall, it shows a little wear, with some laminate creasing to the front & a little discolouration from shelf storage on the back but easily maintains its VG/VG+ grading.
A very acceptable, if not mint, copy of this very rare first stereo issue at an extremely advantageous price!
