Bad Company Rainbow Theatre 1974 Commemorative Plaque UK memorabilia
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
This plaque was issued to commemorate a very successful sold out concert at London's prestigious Rainbow Theatre on April 11th, quite an achievement for a band who had only played their first concert just a month previously. This concert and the tour that preceeded it took place before the debut album was released so the audience were unfamiliar with the material, but enthusiastic about the 'supergroup' made up of two members of Free, plus the guitarist from Mott The Hoople and King Crimson's bass player.
Mel Bush was a legendary concert promoter in the 1970's and 80's. He promoted such infamous concerts as Bowie's Aladdin Sane tour (where Ziggy 'retired'), Queens early tours and Led Zeppelin at Earls Court.
With each of the acts he promoted, once a successful tour or concert was over, Mel Bush would commission a commemorative plaque or mirror as a souvenir of the event. Usually these would be presented to the artist, with an additional one kept in his own personal archive.
This item has remained in the archive for 34 years but now that Mel is semi-retired, he has decided to part with his treasured archive of mirrors and plaques and we have been enlisted to help him find good homes for his collection. Each item from the archive will be accompanied by a signed letter from Mel detailing its origins and confirming its authenticity.
The plaque itself is a landscape design measuring 11" x 9" including the aluminium frame. The plaque was commissioned back in '74 but the frame has been recently replaced.
The plaque is stylishly screen printed in just two colours, red and black and features a picture of the individual band members in the centre with their names surrounding the pictures. At the top is the band name in red outline text. The bottom portion of the plaque has the venue details, ticket prices and date with the wording 'SOLD OUT' in red
An effective design that is certainly eye-catching and remains in perfect condition having been preserved in the Mel Bush archive since it was commissioned.
