DUKE ELLINGTON Ellington At Newport (Rare 1959 UK first issue 3-track mono LP, famously recorded live at the American Jazz Festival at Newport on 7th July 1956 with Paul Gonsalves' acrobatic, fully-improvised, 27-chorus tenor solo, fully laminated flipback picture sleeve. The flimsy sleeve shows just light shelfwear with some laminate split at the opening and vinyl remians in excellent condition with few signs of play. An absolutely vital piece in the Ellington canon BBL7133).

2-LP vinyl set
Duke Ellington Ellington At Newport UK vinyl LP album (LP record)
Tracklisting / Additional Info: This is the original famous live recording at the American Jazz Festival at Newport, R.I. on 7th July 1956. Or is it? Jazz historians have revealed that in actual fact a large majority of the music on this original LP had been re-recorded in the studio, complete with canned applause and phoney emcee introductions two days later! What is left intact from that night for certain is Paul Gonsalves' astounding 27-chorus tenor solo that whipped the crowd into a frenzy and made headline news the following morning - this is known because the recording was badly flawed owing to Gonsalves accidently playing into the wrong microphone! What ever the case, this is essential for Ellington fans and a fine piece of jazz history in its own right.
