APPLE LABEL Apple Display/Sticker Proof Artwork (Unique 1971 UK pair of original hand assembled pieces of proof artwork commissioned by Apple Records & featuring what was intended to be an in-store display item, both featuring the familiar 'Apple' design as used on their album labels. One piece of artwork appears to be a proof design for the front & back of a display & is laid on an 8" x 10" stiff card backing. The second is the final design, as sent to the printer, complete with return quote addressed to Apple!)

Tracklisting / Additional Info: THE DESIGN

The overall dimensions of the pieces are :-

1) 8" x 10" with the designs themself being approximately 4½" in diameter featuring the familiar 'sliced' & 'unsliced' Apple images with 'APPLE' text overprinted on the unsliced side in a different large curved font & 'OPEN' printed on the sliced side in block.

2) 9" x 10" with a 5" in diameter 'unsliced' Apple design with 'APPLE' text.


The second design comes with a covering letter quote, addressed to Apple, 3 Saville Row, from the printers Wylton Dickson Associates Limited for 5000 to be manufactured on rigid PVC in four colours with pressure sensitive adhesive on the back.


These items were, presumably, for an in-store display that a shop could fix to their door, displaying the 'OPEN' side to the public & the 'APPLE' inside.

It is equally possible that the first piece of artwork was for an aborted hanging display before finally deciding on the sticker format. You decide !


This is a superb piece of Apple history & comes with excellent provenance in that it was obtained from an ex-employee of Apple when the offices closed in the mid Seventies - a one of a kind!
Condition : This item is in Excellent condition or better (unless it says otherwise in the above description).
