The Beatles FIRST official L.P. release. For the ONLY time, the mono version was issued 6 weeks BEFORE the stereo version.
This album contained the "A" and "B" sides of their first two singles, plus 10 new songs ALL recorded in one incredible session at Abbey Road. The session cost just £400 and lasted 16 hours.
The album took exactly 6 months to pass the sales figure of 250,000, and went on to sell over half-a-million in the U.K. with world sales of almost two million.
It still holds the record for the longest continuous stay at number 1
The cover photo was taken at EMI's Manchester Sq. headquarters by Angus McBean, and the sleeve notes are by Tony Barrow.
Whilst trying to think of catchy names for their first album release, George Martin offered the title, "Off The Beatle Track", but this was bypassed. Mr. Martin clearly liked the name, and used it himself in 1964.

"Please Please Me" The stereo version has John making a mistake in the words of the final verse, which causes him to chuckle in the final chorus ... these are NOT heard in the mono version
CONDITION
This copy is a one previous owner example that was bought from new by mail order on release. The original owner requested a stereo copy & his wish was granted when this beautiful first press stereo LP arrived in the mail. It has been kept in one household ever since.
The all important black and gold Parlophone labels remain in superb condition. There is no writing, the gold text is striking and clearly legible with no fading & there is a ZMT stamp code by the centre hole for the first side still clearly visible. The spindle area is clean with just light evidence of play. As previously stated, this is the first pressing with Dick James Music Co credit for Please Please Me, Misery, I Saw Her Standing There & Do You Want To Know A Secret. The machine stamped matrix numbers and stampers in the dead vinyl confirm that this was one of the first pressed as both sides end -1. The matrix numbers are as follows:

The vinyl has been professionally cleaned & play tested. We can confirm outstanding playback with great clarity, achieving an Excellent grade. The vinyl has been played very little in its life. There is evidence of past use & handling with a few paper hairline scuffs across the first two tracks from being taken out of the bag on occasion. These have no effect on play. The stereo separation is incredible with a soundstage much missing from the more sterile sound we have become accustomed to with the CD age. The analogue warmth gives the listener more of an indication of the sound that the band and George Martin were trying to achieve.
The most outstanding aspect of this copy is the clean nature of how the record plays with very little surface noise or any major static pops between tracks or during quiet passages. The quality of the sound makes the playing of the disc a pleasure with no allowances having to be made for its 55 year vintage, which is astounding in itself.
Comes housed in the original "Use Emitex" poly lined inner bag with 'Made In Great Britain' print.
The Ernest J Day front laminated, flipback picture sleeve, with large block STEREO logo on the front, has only a couple of minor issues. The Angus McBean photo on the front of the sleeve has retained its rich colours with just a little minor dulling to the laminate. Many Beatles fans immediately put their name [& often their full address] on the back cover but there is no writing with this example. The panels are clean with minimal sign of foxing to the unlaminated rear. The flipbacks are clean & all text is legible, the spine still looks exceptionally vivid. The bottom corners reveal some minor paper loss from past scuffing but only a tiny thumb crease is evident in the bottom right hand corner of the rear side. The opening remains sharp & unscuffed. There is a 2" hairline split in the top left hand edge by the top flipback, unobtrusive to the print, but this could be carefully tape repaired. This is the worst of the damage to the sleeve & the flipbacks remain secure with all other aspects highlighted would normally achieve an Excellent grade.
This legendary album rarely surfaces and this copy is in beautiful condition. It would make a great investment item or collectors piece with little requirement to ever upgrade as you would be unlikely to find another copy that plays so well!
