John Oldgit Blackburn under Sea, Lancashire UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 3rd Jun '08 20:38 (GMT)Question to EIL: Honky Tonk WOMAN rare misprint Rolling Ston Hello, I have a copy of Honky Tonk Women on blue Decca label (unboxed) and dated 1969. However, the title printed on the record is 'HONKY TONK WOMAN', not WOMEN. Please could you tell me if this was an early release which was later changed to Women or is it the Holy Grail of spelling mistakes? I have spent hours trawling dozens of sites and forums, asked numerous 'experts' and cannot find a single reference to a copy of the record with WOMAN in the title, although many sellers etc wrongly put WOMAN in their titles. The 'B' side is You Can't Always Get What You Want. The matrix numbers etched into the run off area are: HONKY TONK WOMAN - MISPELLED VERSION Side 'A' XDR - 45283 - T1 - 3C Side 'B' XDR - 45284 - T1 - 1C HONKY TONK WOMEN - MY OLD COPY Side 'A' XDR - 45283 - T1 - 1C Side 'B' XDR - 45284 - T1 - 2C I'm not sure what the matrix numbers signify, although I imagine they refer to when and on what press they were made? There is a photo of the label at the URL below. You can contact me directly: oldgitsuk at dsl dot pipex dot com http://www.oldgitsuk.dsl.pipex.com/woman/woman01.jpg[reply to this topic ]
roelof NETHERLANDS Created Fri 16th May '08 15:32 (GMT)Review: The songs are the same as on the double-CD, exept it's in MP3-format. There aren't many "extra's"though (booklet and a few postrs/photo's). A video of the Shine a light movie would've been nice (we'll just have to wait for the DVD-release I suppose)[reply to this topic ]

grubbe-tuchus USA Created Sun 9th Sep '07 07:43 (GMT)Mick Taylor is All Over this Record!!! Do you have ears? The album opens with a soring guitar solo from Mick Taylor. He plays rhythm on the next two tracks, or is that not allowed from this gifted musician? The next song, "Till the Next Goodbye" was the last rack he ever recorded with The Stones. He graces it with 12 string guitar and he co-wrote it with Mick Jagger. Following this is Taylor's top peforming "Time Waits for No One" which is chock full of tastey Taylor guitar solos. On "Luxury" Taylor again plays supporting rhythm to Richards main rhythm and lead tracks, just as the both of them did on "Ain't too Proud to Beg" and "It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I Like It)". "Dance Little Sister" is a song written to showcase taylor's dancing guitar leads. "If You Really Want to Be My Friend" showcases two soaring solos from Taylor as well as his supprting guitar during the main parts of the song. "Shorts and Curlies" features some nice Taylor slide and some laid back leads. But closing, man-o-chevitz you have no ears at all because it is Taylor on funk bass as well as some overdubbed lead guitar parts. That bass playing is over the top funky and it can only be Taylor. This album should be called "Mick Taylor and The Rolling Stones" just so reviews like yours should never be written. Tin eras don't make for great album reviews. Thanks for having a unique gift to be able to ignore talented playing like Mick Taylor's. It's no wonder that so many lesser guitarists thrive with folks like you cheering their every bad note and flacid leads.[reply to this topic ]

McKane Irvine, Ayrshire UNITED KINGDOM Created Sat 25th Aug '07 19:20 (GMT)the black box This is a bootleg. However, it almost was a legitimate release. The 'odds n sods' compilation, "Metamorphosis", released by Decca in 1975, was originally compiled by Bill Wyman, and comprised (probably) more or less the material on the set you describe. Allen Klein, however, was not interested in double or triple disc sets. So "Metamorphosis" was pretty much thrown together and issued in a package which would 'sell'. It is a great pity, but of course the people who sell records have never been all that interested in the opinions of people who make records, or people who buy them.[reply to this topic ]
lost-souls-forever LEICESTER, LEICESTER UNITED KINGDOM Created Wed 11th Jul '07 11:31 (GMT)Question to EIL: Rolling Stone Black UK Decca Label Can any one help me out? I have a Rolling Stones single that I picked up recently. The record is the Rolling Stones: Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In The Shadow? b/w Who's Driving Your Plane. The catalogue number is Decca F.12497 which is the same as the standard UK issue. The label on this copy is black (rather than the usual dark blue) with the usual boxed Decca logo and it has printed on it "Made In England". The layout of the label text is slightly different to the standard issue too and it also has different matrix numbers in the run-off grooves. The matrix numbers are XDR-38957-T1-1C (A-side) and XDR-38958-T1-1C (B-side), whereas the standard blue labelled UK copy which I have has the numbers :XDR-38957-T1-2C and XDR-38958-T1-2C. My first thoughts after listening to the record a couple of times was that the mix sounds slightly different - I'd say it sounded a bit rougher with the vocals not quite so prominent. The only other Stones singles I've come across with black labels from the UK are early export copies, which have the AT prefix matrix number, could you possibly shed any light on this? I can send you scans if you would like. Thanks Gary[reply to this topic ]

Karahi King Prawn UNITED KINGDOM Created Tue 5th Jun '07 14:01 (GMT)Review: The clue is in the text there - it's a PROMO CD aimed at radio programmers, hence the inclusion of two similar versions (the choice then lies with them as to which version they play). The 'call-out hook' is a standard promotional tool included on pretty much every US promo CD these days and is there for marketing/information purposes only - it ain't there to entertain you![reply to this topic ]
