KING CRIMSON 2014 NYC (2026 UK/EU 16-track double album
2-LP set, cut by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering, pressed on
200-gram Super-Heavyweight Vinyl. New York was
never just another tour stop for King Crimson. The city runs
through the band's history from the 1969 Fillmore East
breakthrough through their early-'70s returns, the Larks'-era
farewell at Central Park in 1974, and six nights at the Savoy in
1981 that Robert Fripp later named among the band's high
points. That thread continues through the Double Trio and
Double Duo line-ups and a 2008 quintet at the Nokia Theatre,
arriving in 2014 at the same Manhattan venue, by then
renamed the Best Buy Theatre, for a full reset of the band.
2014 NYC> opens a new live compilation series drawn
from King Crimson's 2014-2021 line-up, beginning with this
set taken from live multi-track recordings of the band's
four-night run at that venue between 18-21 September 2014.
That incarnation of the band was unlike anything else touring
at the time, built around three drummers, Gavin Harrison, Bill
Rieflin and Pat Mastelotto, stationed across the front of the
stage, an arrangement Fripp described as turning rhythm into
a moving, interlocked engine. Rather than replaying the
catalogue note-for-note, the septet rebuilt older material as
living, evolving pieces, restaging moments such as "Starless"
with a deliberate nod back to the 1974 Central Park shows.
This special edition release is housed in a gatefold picture
sleeve with new liner notes from King Crimson biographer Sid
Smith. Hype sticker & factory sealed. Recommended).
