Of The Dark</I> marked a clear resurgence for Iron Maiden,
restoring urgency and scale after the more subdued <I>No
Prayer for the Dying</I>. Debuting at number one on the UK
Albums Chart, the record reaffirmed the band's dominance at
a time when heavy metal was rapidly evolving around them.
The album balances speed and weight with broader dynamics.
"Be Quick Or Be Dead" opens at full throttle, proving Maiden
could still match the intensity of younger thrash
contemporaries, while "Afraid To Shoot Strangers" and "Fear
Is the Key" bring a darker, more reflective edge. "Wasting
Love" stands out as one of the band's strongest '90s ballads,
and the closing title track has gone on to become a
permanent fixture of Maiden's live set. <I>Fear Of The
