	PRETTY THINGS The Pretty Things (1965 UK first press 12-track Mono vinyl LP on a 'rough' textured black & silver label, front laminated pasted picture sleeve. Their legendary debut, attempting to outdo The Stones with gritty versions of Bo Diddley songs such as Road Runner recorded way up in the red TL5239) See 'More Info' ... Tracklisting: Not only did this challenge the Stones on the British R&B front, it probably beat them. If ever a band deserved to be huge, it was The Pretty Things, but a combination of circumstances conspired against them and thwarted their rightful place as superstars at the time. From this very first outing to their latest and last recordings, this band have always produced quality output and are perhaps now finally getting the respect they'd always deserved. Condition: This is a lovely one previous owner example, obtained from a private collection of sixties & seventies Rock, Beat, Psych & Prog rarities, mainly of the British variety. The cover retains beautiful, tight laminate & the spine is unmarked & clearly legible. The back slick is unblemished & remains largely off white with nothing that affects the print. A stunning example, we would grade the cover Excellent - they do not come much better than this! The matrices in the run-outs are machine stamped '1L/1' & '2L/1'. The labels are stunning Near Mint & reveal little evidence of play by the centre hole. The vinyl remains in staggering condition. We have professionally cleaned both sides on a top of the range Matrix machine. The vinyl shows barely any signs of play leaving it between Excellent and Near Mint - we doubt there are many copies as nice as this still out there. Sorrow from cradle to grave, front laminated 'Ernest J Day' gatefold sleeve with internal flipbacks & red tinted company catalogue inner. SX6306) Tracklisting: History :- Working with noted EMI staff producer Norman "Hurricane" Smith (who had engineered the earlier Beatles recordings and produced Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn) and house engineer Peter Mew, The Pretty Things created one of the great, lasting Psychedelic LPs, following in the vein of The Beatles. The group experimented with the latest sound technology, including the Mellotron and early electronic tone generators, often employing gadgets and techniques devised on the spot by Abbey Road's technicians. The gatefold sleeve is front laminated with internal flipbacks, & remains a glorious off white. There is a little foxing to the inside & general wear but this is minor. The condition is certainly Excellent, & still looks fantastic to this day, with all text legible including along the spine. The inner sleeve is free from any wear or splits. The Labels : - The labels are the much sought after, rough textured blue & black Columbia variety. There are no marks or wear to the label design & there are barely any spindle marks by the centre hole, indicating very little play. The matrices read: Side One : XAX 3738-1 Side Two : XAX 3739-1 Vinyl : - The vinyl has been professionally cleaned & has come up looking sparkling. Upon play testing, there is no distortion & any surface noise during the run-in is kept to an absolute minimum. Under a bright light, there are just a few faint paper scuffs which have no effect on play. The wax still shines as bright as the day it was released. We have only ever had two Excellent condition original copies of this classic British landmark before. This is a beautiful, very rare, mono original for one serious & lucky collector! Do not miss.
