| PETER HOWELL & JOHN FERDINANDO Tomorrow Come Someday
(Monster rare & highly sought after limited edition 1969 UK-only
private press 12-track vinyl LP on the Sound News Productions
imprint, an original first press with rough textured label & 'ridge',
complete with the die-cut poly patent plain sleeve & the orange thick
card flipback picture sleeve, with annotated address along the top on
the front & signed 'John F + Peter H. - You're Our Favourite 'Extra'
Aren't You?' in blackmarker pe

for this stupendous British rarity... SNP97)ŽŽUnlike many privately pressed discoveries made in recent years, this super cult OST recorded for a very low-budget underground Brit-flick lives up to the hype, blending hazy, pastoral folk vibes, femme-vox and soundtrack cues with a hint of psychedelia [well it was 1969!]. Written and produced by two amateur musicians, John Ferdinando and Peter Howell [BBC Radiophonic Workshop], Howell's budding musical/engineering prowess is put to good use here, putting the pairs newly acquired Revox Tape Machine through its paces resulting in a surprisingly accomplished soundtrack, recorded to a much higher standard than usual with privately pressed LPs. Incredibly, Howell and Ferdinando would go on to mastermind five legendary privately pressed albums, all under assumed names: Agincourt, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Ithaca and Friends - jeez!! All of their recordings were pressed in tiny double-digit quantities [pressing any more than 99 copies made you liable for a tax bill] and were given out to cast members, friends and family. It is difficult to know exactly how many of this LP were pressed but it would appear to be around fifty copies only, how many have survived, even less - yikes!
Condition:-
The sleeve:
The thick card sleeve has stood the test of time remarkably well, with just some light corner wear and is still largely off white & in Excellent condition, with just a couple of tiny thumbnail splits to an edge or two due to the flimsy design & all text clearly legible. Please note that this top UK collectable is made just that little bit more special with the inclusion, along the top edge, of a hand-written name and address [almost certainly a cast/production member] with the reverse signed by John Ferdinando and Peter Howell with the cryptic message “you're our favourite 'extra', aren't you?”
Labels:
These are the original black & white 'rough' textured variety with the 'ridge' both sides, confirming first issue. The matrices in the run-outs are machine stamped, reading: SNLP103/104.
The vinyl:
All four Ferdinando and Howell privately pressed LPs [Friends only got to acetate stage] sell for around the £1500 upwards mark on the extremely rare occasions they surface for sale. The heavyweight vinyl has been professionally cleaned on a top of the line Matrix machine. Although the vinyl plays to an Excellent standard with an incredible deep sheen both sides, the record displays the odd faint hairline and light scuff and there is a noticeable 'click' for the first few rotations on the first track. It's worth bearing in mind that these records were pressed by a tiny independent Christian organisation 'Sound News Productions', so do not have the fidelity of something recorded/mastered at Abbey Road and as such the occasional light 'pop' & tiny 'crackle' can be heard, but nothing too excessive.
This is the first copy in 30 years that has graced the turntable at eil.com and we are really pleased to be able to offer this top UK underground vinyl rarity. Keep your eyes peeled for more John Ferdinando and Peter Howell rarities coming your way soon……

| VARIOUS A Game For All Who Know - The H & F Recordings Box
(2017 UK 5-CD compilation set - Between 1968-74, amateur
songwriters, musicians & home taping enthusiasts Peter Howell & John
Ferdinando retreated to their makeshift home studio in East Sussex to
mastermind a series of privately-issued albums that were attributed to
semi-fictitious group names such as 'Ithaca' & 'Agincourt'. Only
pressed in double-digit quantities, those albums are now amongst the
most valuable vinyl artefacts
Tracklisting: of the era, with copies selling for upwards
of £2,000 on the extremely rare occasions that they surface. This
collector's box gathers all four albums & adds an
unreleased-at-the-time fifth, the Friends LP Fragile, which was
abandoned at acetate stage after Howell accepted an invitation in 1974
to join the BBC Radiophonic Workshop on a full-time basis. The first
four albums are presented in miniature card sleeve replicas of the
original vinyl artwork, while the Friends album recreates the duo's
original plans for the artwork had the LP reached pressing stage. Taken
from the original master tapes, the discs are housed in a clamshell
picture box complete with a booklet that features a new 7000-word
essay on their activities, fresh interviews & previously unpublished

Notes
Music from the Ditchling Players' Production January 1969
Condition:-
The sleeve:
The sleeve has stood the test of time remarkably well. The sleeve is slightly oversized being a private press & the laminate as a silk finish with a faint ripple with age. The sleeve appears Excellent on the whole, with a 2" hairline split in the bottom edge & a 1" hairline split top right. All text is bright and vivid and clearly legible & the sleeve is a fantastic off white.
Labels:
These are the original black & white 'rough' textured variety with the 'ridge' both sides, confirming a genuine original. The matrices in the run-outs are machine stamped, reading: SNLP11/12.
The vinyl:
The vinyl has been professionally cleaned & play tested & is strictly graded Fair/Good. There are some light scratches & multiple faint marks & scuffs throughout and playtesting reveals numerous light pops/clicks, the record doesn't jump & the record is still very enjoyable. All the Ferdinando and Howell privately pressed LPs [Friends only got to acetate stage] sell for around the £1500 upwards mark on the extremely rare occasions they surface for sale. This is the first copy in 30 years that has graced the turntable at eil.com and we are very pleased to be able to offer this top UK underground vinyl rarity for sale.
