Highly sought-after Record Store Day exclusive anthology box set from Elektra Records, celebrating one of the most important and influential folk collections ever assembled. This deluxe issue revisits the landmark compilation first issued during the height of the 1960s folk revival.
This limited edition box set is individually stamped and numbered on the reverse, with only 2,000 copies pressed worldwide, making it a genuine collector’s piece. The set is housed in a sturdy wood-grain textured outer box, featuring the iconic rustic artwork synonymous with the original release.
The collection comprises four 12-inch high-fidelity long play records pressed on Black Vinyl, each housed in its own sleeve. Also included is a substantial 48-page illustrated booklet, featuring extensive liner notes, complete song lyrics, bibliography and discography, providing rich historical and cultural context. The anthology was compiled and annotated by Robert Shelton and produced by Elektra founder Jac Holzman, reinforcing its archival significance.
Organised thematically rather than by artist, The Folk Box traces the development of folk music from its Old World origins through migration, labour, protest, blues and spiritual traditions. Featured artists include Clarence Ashley, Theodore Bikel, Oscar Brand, Big Bill Broonzy, Judy Collins, Bob Gibson, Cynthia Gooding, Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, Odetta, Pete Seeger, Jean Ritchie, Josh White and many others.
