JAMES YORKSTON/ LOMOND CAMPBELL / THE PICTISH TRAIL / RAGHU DIXIT / SLOW CLUB / SUHAIL YUSUF KHAN / KING CREOSOTE EXPERIMENTAL_BATCH_NUMBER_26 (2013 UK 10-track vinyl LP album — an exceptionally rare and unique collaborative project created aspart of Dewar’s whisky Experimental Batch series. Conceived by Stephen Marshall and driven primarily by Lomond Campbell, the project brought together an eclectic group of musicians, singers and songwriters for an intensive week-long creativeresidency. Recorded at the Sculpture Studios at Edinburgh University, with legendary producer Paul Savage (The Delgados, Mogwai) setting up the recording environment, the artists were tasked with collaboratively writing and recording an entire album within just seven days. The result is a richly textured and exploratory collection that blends folk, experimental, world and indie influences, reflecting the spontaneous nature of the collaboration. Only 500 copies of this LP were pressed, with approximately half distributed directly to the participating artists, who sold them at live shows — making this an especially scarce and desirable release. The artwork was created by Sean Dooley, featuring photography taken in his own home; the front cover image was originally a test photo pinned to his wall, chosen for its striking contrast with the wallpaper, while the rear sleeve image depicts the lathe used to cut the record itself. A promotional CD single featuring a track not included on the album was also issued separately. Housed in a quality matte picture sleeve complete with a printed credits inner. The sleeve shows only minimal wear, while the vinyl displays some light superficial paper scuffs that do not affect playback, leaving it graded Excellent — a fascinating and highly collectible artefact of a truly one-off musical collaboration.
