One of the hardest to find records in the Lansdowne series & also one of the best, this was the accomplished debut by Britain's finest jazz group of the sixties, the Don Rendell-Ian Carr Quintet. Not nearly celebrated enough, Rendell & Carr were Britain's answer to Miles & Coltrane. With beautiful, introspective modal numbers & a fine backing group consisting of Colin Purbrook (piano), Dave Green (bass) & Trevor Tomkin (drums), this is a firm winner through & through & comes highly recommended.
Condition
The sleeve is best described as EX-; there is a little light creasing at the spine to the front, with the lightest signs of discolouration to the back, and a small mark below the top flipback. The original Harlequin shop sticker remains, after nearly sixty years, which only adds to the charm. The flipbacks are secure with just minor discolouring to the back panel.
The labels have a few spindle marks where it has been played just a few times.
The vinyl has been professionally cleaned; there are some obvious marks during Blue Mosque on Side 1, where you can hear the occasional click, and is graded VG. Side 2 looks barely played. Not Mint, but a perfectly acceptable play copy of this Brit-Jazz classic!
