David Bowie David Bowie - Poor UK vinyl LP album (LP record)

Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
More Information What we have here is one of the most sought after worldwide David Bowie collectables - the original pressing of what is generally regarded as the first Bowie album proper, performed by Bowie and a cast of uncredited 'Friends' including Herbie Flowers, Rick Wakeman, Moody Blues bassist John Lodge and [on 'Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud'] Mick Ronson. Despite this stellar line-up and the success of the 'Space Oddity' single, the album was a commercial failure, hence its scarcity today - it would be reissued in 1972 by RCA, but with a new title and an alternate sleeve.
This original gatefold sleeve design features an image of Bowie on the front based on Hungarian-born artist Victor Vasarely's piece 'CTA 25 Neg', with George Underwood's drawing 'The Depth Of The Circle' on the reverse illustrating aspects of the album's lyrics. The lyrics themselves are printed across the centre of the gatefold.
This is an item that defines 'rare'. They just don't come along very often.
Condition Due to its matt finish, the sleeve has succumbed to some major edge scuffing & storage wear in its time, the front has some paper loss in several places, there is obvious scuffing all over the spine (some text illegible) and signs of water damage to the lyrics (some text 'reversed' on opposite side. Surprisingly, the back cover is still relatively clear - the colours are still vibrant and clear.
The labels have some marks around the spindle holes to show it has been played many times.
The vinyl has many, many light and medium hairlines/scuffs throughout - with several that can be felt by fingertip. The label texts are clear and perfectly readable on both sides, with a previous owner's name faintly seen on Side 1. Despite being professionally cleaned - there are undoubtedly many issues to be heard through playback. Sadly under the heading of 'wrecked but rare'.
Overall, this is a poor copy, but an ideal collection filler at an advantageous price.
