David Bowie The Man Who Sold The World - Withdrawn Dress Sleeve - EX UK vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
| Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
The Vinyl The labels are black & silver with '(p)1971' print. Note the 'Tonny' Visconti producer credit misprint is printed both sides, which was quickly recalled by Mercury & pressed again almost immediately.
There are a few light spindle marks to show play by the centre hole & the labels are bright & clear with no writing or tears. The vinyl easily achives an Excellent grading, there are some light paper hairlines visible under a strong light but nothing that affects play. The record has been professionally cleaned & play tested & the sound quality is superb. We haven't seen an original first pressing in this condition for a very long time. It's now a serious collectors item for the Bowie fan looking to invest & should be stored carefully. The musical content featured on this album does not differ in any way from the countless reissues on both vinyl & CD, & so a highly playable copy of this album can easily be found.
Sleeve The unique, withdrawn picture sleeve to this album is legendary & the major selling point here. This particular cover is now extremely difficult to find as an original, & when & if found, it is usually found ripped, torn or excessively worn due to its fragile nature & texture.
The sleeve on this copy is graded Excellent. The front panel has wonderful clear colours with only very minor scuffing to the edges/spine and no writing or splits. The spine text is clearly legible and both front and rear panel are nice & clean & the design is strong & vivid.
The original '0371' dated inner bag is present & correct & in Excellent condition. The dates are vital for this release as the album first appeared in the States in November 1970 but was first released in the UK much later on in April 1971.
Note, the original cover is matt & finely textured (like wallpaper) & features the original misspelling of Mick Woodmansey on the back ('Woodmansley'). The spine is printed top to bottom, correctly. The clock on the mantlepiece is visible & Bowie's foot is clearly in shot, all indicators of a genuine first pressing. Overall, this is an all round Excellent condition example of an increasingly rare & desirable cover design & one of the best we have found in ages.
With so many good counterfeits of this sleeve on the market, we are pleased to be able to offer this GENUINE article here, so you can buy with confidence !
A wonderful item & increasingly in demand, this is the jewel in any Bowie collection.
