Opening with Doctor Honoris Causa dedicated to Herbie Hancock for his Honorary Doctorate at Grinnell University, Zawinul doubles up with Herbie on the keys [with Woody Shaw on trumpet] to create an impressionistic sound painting, a work that, in its way, compliments Miles' In A Silent Way recorded a year before - Zawinul expands on that very number on side 1, and with tape-speed manipulation and Echoplex devices deployed to vast effect, across the whole of the LP, he produces a rich and adventurous affair worthy of the attention of any serious jazz-rock fan.
