LEAF HOUND Growers Of Mushroom (Archive Quality "Dead Stock"
1971 first UK issue 9-track LP, once voted the number one most
collectable rock record on the planet by Q Magazine, an incredible
progressive masterpiece that was criminally ignored during its lifetime
but has since gone on to attain legendary status. Obtained from an ex
record shop employee, this very disc was left on the backroom
shelves without the picture sleeve since the day of release, & simply
never found its customer. As standard record shop practice goes, the
actual vinyl discs are often divorced from their sleeves & in this case
sometimes never matched at all. This exact copy never did sell in the
shop. It never did make its debut on a turntable. It may lack the
picture sleeve but what it does have is the original Decca poly bag &
the record shop master card sleeve, which is annotated with details of
the LP & a rubber stamped '20 Oct 1971' release date; this adds up
nicely with the '9-71' manufacturing date printed at the bottom of the
poly bag. This shop card sleeve which holds the record even has the
1971 retail price of... wait for it... "£2.19"! We immediately cleaned
the record to avoid any reaction to the poly material in the bag [this is
ever so faint both sides & purely cosmetic]. We then gave the record
its first airing on a turntable, & boy did it sound HUGE. In terms of
sound quality, this original Decca disc has no equal. It makes all
represses VASTLY inferior, meaning there really isn't any other way to
own this as a collector. We are overjoyed to be able to offer you a
standalone, original & near 'as new' vinyl copy - minus the sleeve - for
this near lost masterpiece. Please 'see more' info for further details...

Leaf Hound Growers Of Mushroom UK vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
The album was recorded in one eleven hour session at Spot Studios in Mayfair, London in late 1970 with Peter Fench on Vocals, Mick Halls on Guitar, Derek Brooks on Guitar, with his brother Stuart on Bass & Keith George-Young on drums. The band had previously been active, with various lineups, as Black Cat Bones. A victim of circumstances and a sequence of disputes with their management, led to the band touring Germany with the album still unreleased. Because of their success on this tour, German label Telefunken released both the album and a single. On returning to the UK, the album still remained unissued & the band finally broke up before it was released, losing the opportunity to promote it, and it disappeared without trace. Many years later, the album was re-discovered, rightly proclaimed a classic & people set out to try to obtain copies, without success. Seriously bootlegged, as original copies were almost impossible to obtain, it is suspected that like the Dr Z 'Three Parts To My Soul' LP, the actual copies sold were measured in handfuls. This is an absolute vital piece of British Rock & Decca label history. Buy now or cry later we say! 1. Freelance Fiend 2. Sad Road To The Sea 3. Drowned My Life In Fear 4. Work My Body 5. Stray 6. With A Minute To Go 7. Growers Of Mushroom 8. Stagnant Pool 9. Sawdust Caesar
