Jefferson Airplane Surrealistic Pillow - Test Pressing UK vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
The original UK version of Surrealistic Pillow did not include White Rabbit, She Has Funny Cars & Plastic Fantastic Lover, some might say the more psychedelic tracks found on the US equivalent. This was possibly done in order to market the record in the UK as a folk rock album at the time, little was it known the tidal wave of psychedelic rock that was to follow.
The A-side label lists both the matrix & catalogue number details by hand, as well as the album title & artist name ['J. Airplan' sic]. The labels are custom studio green with 'Factory Sample - Not For Sale' print both sides. For completeness sake, the matrices are machine stamped thus:
Side One: T2PP-9331-4k Side Two: T2PP-9335-1K
The poly inner is annotated in one corner with matrix details by the cutting engineer.
The proposed front laminated picture sleeve is an early finish with tape reinforced edges & pinched spine. There is no writing, creasing or tears evident & the colours remain rich & vivid.
The vinyl itself is clean & plays beautifully, with no distortion & the utmost clarity in sound. From an audiophile viewpoint, this earliest mono cannot be beaten. On close inspection, there are just the lightest few paper scuffs or spindle to highlight play, but otherwise a stunning Excellent to near mint example.
Tracklist:
1. My Best Friend 2. 3/5 Of A Mile In 10 Seconds 3. D.C.B.A. - 25 4. How Do You Feel 5. Embryonic Journey 6. Don't Slip Away 7. Come Up The Years 8. Chauffeur Blues 9. Today 10. Comin' Back To Me 11. Somebody To Love
This track listing was altered on later issues to :
1. She Has Funny Cars 2. Somebody to Love 3. My Best Friend 4. Today 5. Comin’ Back to Me 6. 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds 7. D. C. B. A.—25 8. How Do You Feel 9. Embryonic Journey 10. White Rabbit 11. Plastic Fantastic Lover
Losing 'Don't Slip Away', 'Come Up The Years' & 'Chauffeur Blues' & gaining 'She Has Funny Cars', 'White Rabbit' & 'Plastic Fantastic Lover', along with a significant re-arrangement in running order.
The tracks lost were from the first album 'Takes Off', not yet issued in the UK, so when 'Pillow' was re-issued, it was issued in the U.S. format as 'Takes Off' became available in the UK.
A genuine one-off find!
