Jimi Hendrix Are You Experienced - 1st - G UK vinyl LP album (LP record)
|Tracklisting / Additional Info:
As emblematic of its time as of its sorcerer-like creator, 1967's Are You Experienced? unleashed Jimi Hendrix onto a world in the midst of such cultural and musical shake-ups that it really didn't seem as 'far out' as it actually was.
It wasn't just Hendrix's virtuosic skill as a pure player that was so impressive, it was even more the range and scope of sheer sound that he coaxed, cajoled and ripped out of his instrument. His songs filled ears with indelible sonic images and songs like 'Foxy Lady' and '3rd Stone From The Sun' pointed the way toward a new brand of rock-charged soul music.
Like the later 'Axis', the Mono is a very different mix to the Stereo version and the band are more 'upfront'. This is not the same mix that is heard on the modern Mono reissue as that was sourced from the US Stereo masters which were themselves copies of the UK Stereo masters. Although the Mono master tapes were not left in a Taxi like the first mix of 'Axis', the original banded masters for the Mono mix have long since disappeared, with some tracks being cut for compilation releases, leaving only incomplete fragments of this mix still around today. Even some of the CD release Mono cuts were sourced from vinyl.
The Ernest J Day picture sleeve shows some light creasing to the laminate & a degree of edge scuffing, with mild wear to the unlaminated back, which remains clearly readable. Vinyl shift over the years, coupled with a weak design has led to a 2" split in the spine at the centre.
The labels are black with silver print and large Track Record logo at the top. There are many spindle marks visible around the centre hole, so this copy has certainly seen action.
The matrix numbers end A-1/B-1 indicating that this copy was one of the first pressed. They are as follows:
Side One 612001 A1
Side Two 612001 B1
The vinyl shows many light scuffs & hairlines, but performs well with just a few minor clicks on playback. Thanks to the quality of sixties vinyl pressings from this period, the mono playback does not stray, & playback is higher.
There is an inevitable degree of surface noise between the tracks and occasionally during quieter passages but it does sound a lot better than it looks.
While by no means mint, we are happy to offer this original UK copy of a classic Hendrix rarity at an advantageous price. With demand ever increasing on the collectors market, and the ability with modern sound editing tools to process out the defects, these are getting increasingly difficult to find in any condition.
