Already a big name as a producer for Capitol, especially with the likes of Cannonball Adderley, Lou Rawls and the Electric Prunes, this abandoned project was recorded a year before Axelrod's remarkable Song Of Innocence debut, so heavily sampled in the 90s.
The custom studio labels are hand annotated with the date '5-25-67', plus artist and title information, complete with a 9-page stapled photocopy of scribbled scene notes detailing where this Orchestral score would be used in the movie, of which the producer's 'lead in' instructions can be heard on the disc.
The acetate reveals light signs of use, for sonic assessment purposes only, and since the score never came to fruition and the fact that it's unusual for more than a dozen actetates to be manufactured, this is a very rare discovery and unique one-off collectable for the Axelrod completist. Unreleased as a film or album, we simply not find a single reference for it!
The die-cut Transco sleeve is torn on the reverse but crucially hand annotated by what we assume to be a representative of the film company: 'This goes to Vic Lewis - He is to represent 'Dave Axelrod' for motion picture scoring in UK and Europe'.
The work on this disc and the fact it went unissued could well explain the huge cinematic scope in sound Axelrod went on to create with his two Songs Of Innocence and Experience masterpieces, which did gain an official release and wide cult following. Unlikely to ever appear on the market again, who knows, this is one very elusive piece!
