Ain't & World Jazz (2010 UK 14-track CD album - 'Jazz Matters'
features two suites of new music written by jazz legend John
Dankworth with lyrics, by Duncan Lamont. The performances were
recorded in 2007 at The Stables Theatre, built more than forty years
ago by John Dankworth and Cleo Laine in the grounds of their home in
Wavendon, and the pieces were individually premiered at the BBC
Proms and The London Jazz Festival. Alyn Shipton says of the new
works <FONT COLOR ="#9400D3"><I>"The Blues Ain't and World
Jazz are worthy companions. As well as exploring unusual facets of
the blues and of what can be done in the space of twelve bars, this
album also shows what a broad range of material can be performed
and interpreted by two consummate musicians, aided by a coterie of
jazz friends, old and new, in order to end up sounding entirely
personal and unique to them."</I></FONT>) )
