GENE VINCENT Born To Be A Rolling Stone (Scarce 1985 Dutch exclusive 12-track vinyl LP - faced with a career that was going nowhere fast on a treadmill of gigs, booze and oldies, Gene Vincent re-grouped in 1966 with Challenge Records [using their 4-Star subsidiary catalogue for material] to reinvent himself as an LA Folk/Country rocker, with a slew of beautiful songs almost on a par with The Gosdin Brothers' seminal 'The Sounds Of Goodbye' or The International Submarine Band'sdebut. In great voice and expertly backed by LA session giants such as Glen Campbell, Jerry Cole, David Gates and The Champs, generating hits in the garage classic 'Bird Doggin'' and 'Born To Be A Rollin' Stone', this collection shows an amazing direction Gene's career could have taken!).
