Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
The Everly Brothers had a memorable split on July 14, 1973, as Phil Everly smashed his guitar and stormed offstage during a concert at Knotts Berry Farm in California, leaving brother Don to finish the concert by himself. Don Everly told the crowd, 'The Everly Brothers died ten years ago.' In reality, due to growing tension, The Everly Brothers had already planned the Knotts Berry show to be their last performance. Many believe the tense mood of the show had been caused by the band having a few drinks before the show. After the split, the brothers would not speak to each other for the next 10 years, only getting together once in 1975 for their father's funeral. While to this day, they rarely comment on their break-up, they had stated in interviews that that 10-year period that they did not speak to each other gave them a chance to find themselves and become older and wiser.
The brothers successfully reformed in 1983 with a new album produced by Dave Edmunds. "The album included 'On the Wings of a Nightingale', written by Paul McCartney for the brothers. It was a minor success and returned them to the charts in both the U.S. and UK. They then announced a Reunion Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London to take place on September 22, 1983. The concert was instigated by virtuoso guitarist Albert Lee (who was also the musical director) and promoted by Mel Bush. The concerts were filmed and the resulting CD and video was well received.
The mirror is a portrait design and measures 34" x 23" including the dark wooden frame. It is stylishly screenprinted in just two colours, red and blue. The centrepoint of the mirror is an eye-catching working of the Everly Brother band name in red with blue outline.
The bottom portion of the mirror contains the Royal Albert Hall box office details, ticket prices and dates printed in blue with 'SOLD OUT' proudly proclaimed in bright red lettering, along with 'Many Thanks, Mel Bush'
With each of the acts promoted by Mel Bush, once a successful tour or concert had taken place, Mel would commission a commemorative plaque or mirror as a souvenir of the event. Usually these would be presented to the artist, with an additional one kept in his own personal archive.
Now semi-retired, Mel has decided to part with his treasured archive of mirrors and plaques and we have been enlisted to help him find good homes for his collection.
A simple but effective design that is certainly eye-catching and despite its age remains in perfect condition having been preserved in bubblewrap in the Mel Bush archive for 30 years since it was commissioned.
