Dr. Z Three Parts To My Soul Italian vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
Dr. Z's first and only album is the rarest record ever released on the Vertigo 'swirl' label.
The band was led by North Wales University professor Keith Keyes, who handles keyboards and vocals, with Bob Watkins on drums and Rob Watson on bass.
The basic theme for the album is that, in the afterlife, your soul is divided into three parts: Spiritus, Manes et Umbra. Spiritus, which represents the inherent good side of Man, the side of beauty, gentleness and goodness. The Manes, the part of the soul which inhabits the underworld, more benevolent than malevolent, but still mixing with the Damned. The Umbra, the shade of the soul which refuses to leave the Earth and stays to haunt the world.
The album was produced by Patrick Campbell-Lyons of the band Nirvana, with a cover designed by Barney Bubbles, who is better known for designing some of the classic Hawkwind sleeves. It has all the right ingredients to be the classic it truly is.
Way ahead of its time, the majesty and power of the Harpsichord drives this album to occasionally very great heights, though it will never be standard radio fodder! This is actually one of the few 'lost prog' albums that deserves its legendary status - very heavy and dark with a baroque feel. The lyrics are all written by Professor Keyes and his philosophical point of view is strongly reflected within.

Condition :-
The sleeve shows some light edge wear with a small area of creasing to one corner on the reverse, however there are no splits or damage to the heart-shaped die-cut section, and the colours are bright and unfaded. The notes and lyrics on the back are clearly legible; there are no rips or tears, writing or other marks.
The vinyl is immaculate, retaining a gorgeous shine. The labels are beautifully clean with sharp black print, no discernible spindle wear and an official 'SIAE' copyright stamp on the second side
A simply staggering copy of this almost mythical rarity!
