Pink Floyd The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - 1st (a) UK vinyl LP album (LP record)
|
Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
Background & Condition :-
The album was released on August 5, 1967 in mono and one month later it was released in stereo. The album's name comes from the title of the seventh chapter of Kenneth Grahame's 'The Wind in the Willows'!
There are significant differences between the stereo & mono mixes.
Subtle changes in effects abound, moment to moment gradations that can alter the flow of an entire track. For example, Syd Barrett’s whoops and shouts on 'Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk'. The coda of 'Flaming' is longer than on the mono version, as is 'The Gnome'. 'Interstellar Overdrive' is without the bongo fadeout of the mono mix and there are seriously different parts in 'Pow R Toch H'.
The Sleeve :-
The Ernest J. Day & Co. sleeve is dated 6709, indicating the first release of the stereo version, complete with advert inner. The sleeve is fantastic looking, with bright clear laminate, secure flipbacks, incredible off white back panel & a glorious looking spine. There is a little minor laminate creasing to the edges but nothing excessive. The back has been rubber stamped 'PF' but otherwise shows just the tiniest amount of scuffing at the opening. It's the best looking example we've seen in ages & easily meets a safe Excellent grade.
The Label :-
The labels are the desirable blue & black variety, with 'Sold In UK' & 'Gramophone Co' label text, & the KT tax code on side 1. The labels are unblemished with no traces of spindle wear indicating hardly any play. The matrix numbers read :
YAX 3419-1 On Side One YAX 3420-1 On Side Two
The Disc :-
The vinyl is beautiful. There are just a couple of the very lightest paper scuffs from where it has been taken in & out of the sleeve. A Near Mint copy.
Highly recommended all round & a perfect upgrade copy.
