The Rolling Stones 4th National Jazz Festival UK concert ticket
|
| Tracklisting / Additional Info: |
This amazing item represents the turning point for the Rolling Stones. The very next day they went to Holland & caused near riots at their gigs. The following month they started their fourth British tour which catapulted them from being 'another R&B band' into household names & superstardom who thereafter became too big an act for the festival to afford them. This gig was so influential that Bill Wyman mentions it in his book as being the point in history where the Stones took off.
The amazing history of this unused ticket is contained in the attached letter & it nicely illustrates the change in attitudes over the years. Suffice to say that in 2050 we won't be telling a similar story about a ticket sold this year!
The original purchaser turned up for the gig in Richmond having travelled from Essex. When he arrived, he realised that he'd left his tickets at home. He explained this to 'the girl on the gate' who said that if he paid another £1 (the tickets were 10/- each) he could come in and then return the original tickets to the organisers for a refund.
The letter accompanying the ticket explains this story quite nicely but he only got a refund of 18/- (some things don't change).
Luckily for all concerned they also returned the original letter AND his unused concert ticket, both of which have been stored safely away ever since.
A fascinating piece of Rolling Stones history with something nice and warm to take you back to those innocent early days. A fantastic piece of memorabilia that still has the magic of the times pinned to it.
A one off !
